Well this is not how I wanted to start this blog...but my luck with travel persists... My flight to DC was cancelled tonight.,most of you have experienced the lovely storms in our area....just ask my beautiful whippet Riese after hiding in the basement for 7 hours today! So, after rebooking with a very non-English speaking agent, I now leave tomorrow morning ...

... out all the logistics with all the costs associated! I am actually calmer now just having a plan and bookings... At first that scared the heck out of me, but now it is actually making me calm...go figure! It's still hard to wrap my head around being out of the country for almost a month. how do I pack? What will I need, what can I take...what can't I take? And it's only 2 weeks ...

... how's the economy here in this area?" "It's a retirement area, really.... there are some jobs. A factory nearby is hiring 6 or 7 people... and there's some work at expanding the Del Grosso amusement park..." One thing there doesn't seem to be much at all here is agriculture. I've seen some grassy meadows that might be used to feed animals, but nothing more. I reach Bellwood, my next "official" town ...

... somehow. But beneath the surface things are not all perfect. Turns out Tyrone has been steadily losing population since the 1920s. I notice at Burger King that out of 7 employees, 6 of them (men and women) look like they're in their 30s or 40s. I'm guessing that that tells something about the shortage of decent job opportunities in this area. Still, I'd say Tyrone has managed to keep its dignity through nearly a century of decline. So, thumbs up for this ...
