So, we did make it to a heli-hike. We managed to go to the nearby glacier and went up in the morning, while the sky was still blue! It was great. Then, we headed up to Blackball, which is a small old coal mining town.

A quick review of the Base Backpackers in Queenstown: It was an excellent place to go with friends or on a sports trip where you can meet/greet while getting a bit rowdy. Just not quite the place to visit with parentals in-tow. :D

... we chose a nice walk to see the seal colony - this is the most northerly breeding fur seal colony in New Zealand.

Our second stop was in the Paparoa National Park which is around 30,000ha of rainforest, cliffs and caves but the most famous feature is in Punakaiki where there are the Pancake Rocks and blowholes.
