Well, here we are sitting in an internet cafe in Swakop. It is next to Woermann and Brock, and Ash is busy eating a koeksister!! We are loving Swakop. It has not changed that drastically. There are a lot of mod shops (Edgars, Truworths, Mr Price etc etc), but has not lost its charm. Kornblums, Otto Gunther etc are still here. (Sorry for those who don't know all this). Haven't been here since we left 22 years ago. I am finding my way around like a star. Still remember all the roads, and the na...
Swakop, Namibia scatterlingI am writing this a little later than the actual day, as it was difficult to get to a computer. Today we had booked to go quad biking on the sand dunes. I must admit I went a little nervously as I am a bit of a sook, and have never driven a motor bike before. (been a passenger a lot, but never in charge of the controls!!). Anyway, our trip was from Walvis Bay, which is about 25 mins from Swakop, so off we went. When we got there, we were the only other people, so that was great, as we could g...
Swakopmund, Namibia scatterling... showered up and a few of us decided to go back to the same restaurant for the game meat but I decided to eat Lasagna instead.
Day #3
I woke up tired but in pretty good spirits. Nick and Rasmus and I were going fishing and were being picked up at 8:15. We met our guide who had the boat hitched to the back of his jeep and we set off to the boat launch. The boat was a 23-footer named Playboy and it had some big twin motors in the back. We set off ...
... flat gravel plains and dry, dead grass land. The only life we see is the occasional ostrich.
We stop for lunch at Walvis Bay, Namibia’s largest shipping port. The city is modern and very clean. There is lots of new development occurring as well. There is a quite a breeze blowing and the temperature has cooled off dramatically.
We arrive at our hotel in Swakopmund at 4 PM. The name of it is the Sky Dive Bed and Breakfast. At ...
... boy in a black dinner jacket and black pants came to the center of the floor. He looked at Heini uncertainly for a moment then launched into Michael Jackson moves without any music accompaniment. He was actually quite good doing the moon walk and falling down into the splits effortlessly, characterizing Michael Jackson and grabbing his ****** periodically. When he was arbitrarily done we all clapped and applauded and called out for an encore, which he ...
Swakupmund, , Namibia claraz8... marveled at the postcard like scenery as we ploughed along the dirt roads. After we set up camp we went out to a 150m high sand dune called Dune 45. So called because it is 45km from Sesriem and 45 dunes from the sea. A few people went on a 2 hour guided walk through the desert first. We skipped it as were saving our dwindling funds for other optional activities further on in the tour. While they were gone we just chilled out around the truck. When they got back we all ...
Swakopmund, Namibia alandrach... was huge and every where. I think because there were so many plants in such a relatively small area they had developed some pretty hard core defense mechanism's. By the time we left Gabon my legs and some other uncomfortable area's were scratched and prickled to pieces. Then there is the insect life, there were these minute bugs which you would never see the little blighter's but the next morning would be covered in 2mm red dots. These would get itchy in a day or so and then become ...
Swakopmund, Namibia sabenafrica... are in German....it seems really strange to be in Africa but feel like you are in Europe.
We are currently sleeping in dorms which is really nice. We are sharing a room with a really nice couple from the UK and are going out to dinner for the next couple of nights. A nice change from eating off of metal plates every night:)

... all the seals in the world, you turn the corner and there are hundreds more! The baby seals are especially cute.
The rest of the drive to Spitzkoppe is long, on roads which aren't too great. We have some river crossings, which are completely dry (in fact, we haven't seen any rivers or lakes since leaving Orange River) and so hard for the truck because of the soft sand. Sure enough, we get stuck in one and all have to get out and dig the wheels free ...
... board and we went head first down the steep dunes (like tobogganing in the snow). Sandboarding was fun, but the walk back up the dunes in the sand was gruelling. We arrived back to the Alternate Space covered in sand. On our third day we went sea kayaking in Walvis Bay. We departed early in the morning and were on the water by 8:30 am. We started 100 meters from a seal colony of about 2000 and proceeded to paddle amongst them. We then ...
