The middle of Florida is a mystery to me. Setting aside the tourist mecca of Orlando with its infamous Disney World (which I have visited on more than a couple occasions), I find I know very little about the vast middle of Florida. It is here that Casey and I are camped - near Lake Okeechobee - smack dab in the middle of Southern Florida.

... bazzar though!! Lake Okeechobee is the largest freshwater lake in the state of Florida & the 7th largest freshwater lake in the United States. It's a shallow with an average depth of only 9 feet. After hurricanes in 1926 & 1928 killed over 2,000 people the 6ft dyke surrounding the lake was increased to 12ft.
