Historical Traveler Reviews Fernroyd House B&B Cork
Loved this B&B
Absolutely excellent in every way.Highly recommend.
Outstanding
My fiancée & I stayed at Fernroyd House during our visit to Cork over 13th to 16th February 2006. We had read all of the reviews on Tripadvisor and chose Fernroyd House as it appeared to have glowing reviews; well all I can say is that it fully deserves the praise it receives.
The B&B is a brisk 10 minutes walk from the centre along the Western Road. The whole place is recently & tastefully decorated; our room was superbly appointed, comfortable and faultlessly clean. The B&B is in a residential street away from the centre so we had a fantastic quiet night's sleep for the whole stay. The cooked breakfast was excellent, making use of top quality ingredients, the inclusion of soda bread with the toast was a neat touch too.
It was the attention to detail that impressed most, something lacking in 4 star hotels we've stayed in costing twice as much.
Avril & Tony were the perfect hosts during our stay and were on hand to offer advice on pubs, live music, restaurants and excursions. We were even offered the use of golfing umbrellas if rain threatened during our trips out.
I'll conclude by saying that you should believe the positive reviews you read for Fernroyd House because they are all accurate; you will not be disappointed.
SIMPLY THE BEST
As you can see from all the reviews this B&B is just simply the best! From the moment you arrive till the moment you leave you are shown pure Irish hospitality!
If you can get in, then there is no alternative!
Surpassed al expectations
Despite the excellent reviews on this site, I still wasn't sure what to expect of Fernroyd House.
All I can say is this: it's absolutely fantastic. From the second we walked in the door we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Avril is great - really friendly, but never intrusive.
Our room was beautifully decorated, with lots of lovely details. And the spacious en-suite bathroom looked brand new.
The House is just 10 minutes walk/stagger from the very centre of Cork, and when we returned at night we had the pleasure of sleeping in one of the comfiest beds I've ever experienced.
Breakfast the next morning was also superb - juice and fruit followed by a full Irish breakfast.
Overall, this place is brilliant. If you're going to Cork I can't recommend Fernroyd House highly enough
Home from Home
Just arrived back from a 3 night stay here.
Hard to put into words, but the review on 1/2/06
from Canada stole my thunder so to speak.Totally agree 100% with everything he said.
Extremely clean rooms, very friendly hosts of whom
nothing was too much trouble (and very knowlegeable of the Cork/Kerry area which helped) . Breakfast was superb and full of choice and location was perfect. One of my concerns before booking ( anywhere) would be the noise ( as I'm a light sleeper)but at this place you are far enough away from the main road and the University not to hear and traffic etc..but still within easy walking distance ( 7/8 mins ) into the centre.
Staying here felt like you were at home and I was sad to leave.
To try to compare it is difficult but it's along the lines of a four star Hotel.
I would definately suggest to anyone when visiting Cork to stay here ( and be quick before the rooms get booked )
Feel free to e-mail me if anyone needs anymore info.
Great place to stay
We have just spent three nights at the fernroyd and really enjoyed our stay, the rooms were lovely, very plush and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for a nicer welcome and Avril and Tony went out of their way to help. Execellent location, 10 min walk into centre of town. Breakfast - great. Recommend anybody going to Cork use this B&B.
Good B&B
This B&B situated at two minutes from the Western Road and at ten minutes walking from the city centre is perfect if you want calm and cosy atmosphere. The bedroom are all en-suite, the break fast is huge and the owners very friendly. I spent a very good time there, do not hesitate to do it too!!
Absolutely the Best!!!
Loved our trip to Ireland and Fernroyd House was one of the finest parts of it. Friendly, warm, comfortable, good food, great service. Can't say enough about it. Highly recommend you consider this B & B.
All the home comforts
Staying at Fernroyd made my 3 day break in Cork, really great, the owners are lovely people who can't do enough for you, would definitely stay there again and use it for a base to travel around County Cork.
Home from Home
Just had two nights here and can thoroughly recommend it! Avril is a wonderful host (ably assisted by the charming Celia)and this lovely place ticked all our boxes...location is great (check out the UCC grounds and the Art Gallery right next door) - you can walk into the City along the Western Rd in minutes...room is lovely, modern and clean, and the breakfasts were great. Would always stay there again.

Day 110...
Thank god I saved spraining my ankle for the last day of my trip and not the first. Not just because it would have been a huge pain for the whole trip, but because I wouldn't have been staying with Tony & Avril (my B&B hosts) who took good care of me!
It all happened about 30 minutes into my walking tour of Cork. I had just seen …
Too bad Cork can't plug my nose
Packed up and left Killarney for Cork. Found our B&B, Fernroyd House, again with no problems. Got checked in and settled and talked with the owners for awhile. While all the B&B hosts were lovely, I think Avril and Tony were the warmest and my favorite (although Anna and Michael at Tara House are a very close second!). They showed us how to …
Last full day in Ireland
Felt a bit better after resting the day before and getting a good night's sleep. So today we head to Blarney Castle and the Cork Gaol. Love, love, love Blarney castle! Well, after stopping at a chemist and getting some Sudafed for my dang nose. Thankfully it stayed just in my nose and didn’t move down to my chest or really became a full blown …
