The longest day

... forest started to include some hardwoods which we were surprised to see starting to turn colour, another reminder that it is September. It was a very long day. We drove 555 miles today which is the most we have driven in any one day. We arrived at Brian's sister's about 8:30.

Day 14 - Sudbury ON to Niagara Falls ON

... into the falls but that wasn't my cup of tea and we could get just as wet at the top ! I will make one comment about the city's need to clean up their litter ! As you lean over the railing there is a section of flat area before it goes down the cliff. It was appalling to see how people had thrown garbage over there ! I do not mean a little - I mean full !! How people can treat such a magnificent creation of nature like a garbage dump mystifies me. It ...

Family visiting

Today we explored Sudbury noticing how green it has gotten, such a huge change from when I arrived here in 1967 after having been hired to teach here over the phone. It was nothing but barren rocks everywhere! Now with the greening projects that have been going on for a number of years the chaange has been dramatic. We spent the day visiting members of Brian's family.

Brian and Rose's adventure begins

... cemetery to find the stone we discovered that Brian's glasses were missing so we tamped it a second time and fortunately found them. We arrived in Sudbury about 4:30, had supper then visited Brian's parent's graves. Then we went to his sister Bridget's house and visited for the evening with Bridget, Mrs. Peplinski, Steven, Jenn, and Steph. The rain put us to sleep.

... trip though here, we'll stay in that area. SUDBURY, ONT: Rock! Lots of rock and it's all because of a 10 km wide meteor that struck here 1.85 billion years ago. It came slightly from the NE at such a velocity that it embedded itself 30km into earth. It made a crater 200km in diameter and shot out the melted rock to the SW - spreading it out 30km wide and 60km long. The crater is now "Wanapitei Lake" located just NE of Sudbury. While driving N and then W of Sudbury to ...

Second day in Sudbury, relaxing a little bit

... walked for about two and half hours, up and down foot hills, I laid down on a flat rock, the same rock which is so prevalent throughout Sudbury and Northern Ontario.  After a couple of minutes of just laying there looking up at the cloudless sky I realized something.  I should take my time here in Sudbury and enjoy its natural beauty.  I then made my way into the conservation area and was blown away with the natural beauty of ...

Ahhh the good times!

... fresh blueberries. Graciously he then allowed me to use the shower and even supplied a neat little hotel soap and shampoo and made breakfast!! So we dined on plums, yoghurt, eggs, fresh blueberries, peaches, juice and of course a whole bunch of whole wheat bread supplied by myself. I was treated like a king, I will be forever thankful to my pal Peter! He then drove me onto the highway and upon pulling away another car pulled up and dear god I had no idea what I was in for next...
