... tradition, they would pay the axeman for his services, or as our Beefeater put it, severance pay. Their heads were then put on a spike on the tower bridge until it rotted and fell into the river. I wonder how many heads are down there now. The tower must have been a very festy place back in the day. It used to have a moat around it, and the tides from the river would provide clean water to it. For some reason this entry is showing up on my blog before the Wrecclesham entry, but it actually happened after. We went straight on to Farnham after our Wrecclesham visit.

As an "EastEnder" I never had any cause to go anywhere in Greater London further west than Hyde Park, but in my last few weeks in London I found myself in a furious dash to see all the things I never got to. One of them was Kew Gardens. Another was to see the Great River Race, which I believe I may have been too hungover to go see the previous year. I decided it would be a good idea to kill two birds with one stone and check out ...

After traveling most of Friday morning, we arrived at 7am at the queue on the gardens of Wimbledon. Three hours later we were sitting on the Lawn inside the Wimbledon Tennis Championship watching the big screen. Got to watch women's doubles play live on court 2 and the Djokovic vs. Del Poltro match on the screen.
It was a wonderful day in the sun & on the grounds. ...
