Leap Day

Disembarked 10ish today at Abel Point Marina. Showered at the marina and made our way to the airport. Flew Jet Star #833 to Brisbane where we picked up a rental car and negotiated our way to our B&B - a 1877 house right by the train station, formerly owned by the railway commissioner.

Brisbane to Byron Bay...

Finally back on land again and stepping out of the arrivals lounge we were met by Jacob and Sophie, who were looking bright and beautiful and happy, and that was the moment when the buzz of excitement really hit us. Now we could relax and enjoy the start of our adventure!

The other thing that hit us was the heat which at nine...

Sydney to Brisbane – in the passion wagon!

6th January 2010

Cruising North on the Pacific Highway out of Sydney listening to 'triple J' on the radio, life was good! We stopped briefly for pillows, bowls, mozzie coils and some fly screen mesh to gaffer tape to the inside of the car windows for ventilation through the night and not let the bugs in. We hit the end of the freeway an...

Mandy, Roo fajitas, and Australian hip hop! OH MY!

Today I flew from Alice Springs to Brisbane. Mandy and Nathan picked me up from the airport, which is a huge plus when schlepping a HUGE backpack! We went straight away to Nathan's brothers house for a yummy dinner. The next day, I pretty much caught up on my life. Not that interesting I realize, but a must when you’re away for so long. Th...

My Australia Trip!

So as you know I decided to take a year out + go travelling around Australia!
My trip 'of a lifetime' did not start of well!

Firstly, when I left home on September the 8th, I missed my connecting flight from London - Singapore, so had to stay in a hotel on my own for the first time! I was so gutted, just wanted to come home! I know...

back in the 22 bed dorm

Yesterday we flew back to Brisbane and spent our last night in Oz in the Elephant and Wheelbarrow, the first hostel we ever stayed in. Made sure got the same 22 bed dorm and met the same drunken Irishman who followed us around last time. Surprisingly didn't remember us. We ate Thai on China Town and found this crazy bar where everyone did this ...

Back in Sunny Brisbane / Flying on to Sydney

Summer is certainly approaching in Australia, the days here feel stickier and warmer, the nights are the same. During my two and a bit month stay in Brisbane earlier in the year the days were like nice English summer days (even though technically it was winter in Brissy). Now though the days feels somewhat tropical.

At City Backpackers ...

Tandem Cycling along the Brisbane River

Again I woke up to my alarm at 8am. Unfortunately I think I woke up the German guy above me as well! After a shower and shave I was ready to go. I thought the cheap internet café was open at 9am, so I headed off at about that time. Frustratingly though it didn’t open till 10, so I spent the time buying up some more packaging bags from the ...

Brisbane

Today was Mandy's day at Expo, and I was rostered to mind Brendan. Mid-morning we dropped Mandy at Sandgate Station, then went shopping for a replacement hitch-pin and hubcaps for the caravan. Dropped in the next film for processing and bought Brendan a 'paint with water' book to keep him busy. After an early lunch back at the caravan, I took Br...
