job. We cleaned the enclosures and then took the bucket of live
crickets Rory gave us and scooped out 5-6 for the larger lizards and
3 for the smaller ones. The goannas were incredibly keen to munch
them and one even bit at my poop/urate scooper in his or her
impatience. We were not allowed to go near the snakes, for good

with sweet Steph, but not before we had a great chat. Today was a
good social-bonding day for me. I feel like I got closer to a lot of
the other vollies, despite my funk of a mood that has been over me
the past few days. It goes away and all is normal and fantastic, like
it was this afternoon.

kept me company as I washed some dishes. Then we went and did our

... attempt at reciting the 50 states of the USA against the clock since I first challenged (and lost to) Sophie the week before on the way to Airlie Beach, and I finally did it. Not to blow my own trumpet or anything, but I smashed out all 50 states in 3 minutes 14 seconds. Sophie congratulated me, though I think she’s a little bitter. There’s another useless skill to add to my CV.

We left after dark , so down the river with all the lights to
see, 59 miles out to the Pilot station at Pt Cartwright, way up by Moolooba
it’s a very long way back to the open sea.!
