... Later, time for some good Mexican family fun - cockfighting! - the ring was actually part of the casino, so one of the few places that was a kid free zone. The tickets were supposed to be $12 but wormed my way in for free - they make plenty of money from the food, drink and gambling! As well as bets on the cocks, there was a sort of roulette wheel where you could wager on red or green, with monies & tickets being thrown back & forward round the huge ring in tennis balls! First the oposing ...

For whatever reason I did not include the town of Chapala as a separate destination in the blog: "Mexico: 23 Destinations to Spend the Winter Months". It is after all part of the "Lake Chapala area" and very close to Ajijic. It is also an area that boasts of having the best weather in Mexico - year round. Maybe I missed the boat in omitting Chapala on my list but all the fuss seems to be ...
Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... affordable access to medical care - relatively safe place - within driving range of the Pacific Coast (4 hours) - abundance of shops and art galleries Cons of Ajijic - too many expats - relatively expensive - not near the coast Conclusion: My four blogs speak for themselves, there is not much about Ajijic that would indicate anything other than this would be a great place to spend the winter months. Furthermore this advice would be ...
Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... a short distance south along Calle Donato Guerra from the town center of Ajijic will quickly lead to the shores of Lago Chapala. What would a lakeshore be without a "muelle" or pier? That is the focal point of the waterfront in Ajijic. The pier is only about 100 meters in length but it does lead the pedestrian into the water so to speak. For those who like to linger and savour the moment, there is also a pleasant bar/restaurant on the pier ...
Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... after we had settled into our large room and it was time to relax a bit on the main square. Even in the late afternoon the sun was glorious and the temperature very pleasant as we settled down, for at least five minutes, on a bench across from the Coffee Hour located on the main square. If it is expats that you want, it is expats that you will get in Ajijic. Of course the main square acts as a magnet since it, along with the Lago Chapala Society, are the main ...
Ajijic, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lobo... of the central highlands, the key ingredient is indeed this beautiful centro historico. Without it, they are just another Mexican city. In the case of Aguascalientes this key ingredient is missing. The centro historico of this city runs out incredibly quickly. It appears that the centro historico is basically centered around the Plaza de la Patria which is bordered by the cathedral and various government buildings. It certainly is an impressive ...

Aguascalientes, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico amazingjourneysDespite the lack of sleep the night before in Zacatecas, somehow we managed to stay up until 7am the first night in Aguascalientes. It was the closing weekend of Onssa Bar, the baby of Marisol's schoolfriend and his buddies. They celebrated the end of 3 years of partying by providing their guests with copious bottles of rum, excellent! The next morning our pounding heads were roused from sleep by a mad honking outside. In a four-by-four with deafening music blasting ...
Aguascalientes, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lisaviro1981... of our journeys down here and have continued to visit each time we come. Some of the photos in this blog are of that family and our day with them in Zapopan. They are simply lovely to be with and we always end up with new foods to try and way too much to eat so that it takes us a couple days to revive. Neto and Poncho are very special and the family takes very good care of them. The love, caring and sharing of ...
Villa Corona, Mexico katynmike... a restaurant next to Collusium st. I don't remember the name of the place but it was a yellow Argentinan steakhouse with a really cool tequila bar. The steak was really big, near 1 pound and cooked to perfection. This may have been one of the best steaks that I had ever eaten. After dinner we returned to the hotel and continued working. We finished up around 12:30 am and caught some shut eye.
