Historical Traveler Reviews English Meadows Inn Bed and Breakfast Kennebunk

My third visit!

from CKENewJersey

This was my third visit to Kennebunkport. I've stayed at the English Meadows Inn each time. You cannot find a more peaceful, lovely place to stay. Everything was perfect from the room to the gardens to the delicious breakfast. They have incredibly ornate table settings and served a wholesome breakfast that included homemade scones, a delicious baked pear dish flavored with port (I think), fruit, a wonderful egg dish, and sausage made at a local farm. YUM!

All We Had Hoped For

My wife and I just returned from a three night stay at English Meadows Inn over the long 4th of July weekend. We were there to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary and English Meadows Inn was all that we had hoped for. We stayed in the Mayfair room, one of two rooms in the main house, which featured a small sitting area in the bright, east facing, windowed turret at the foot of our bed... a perfect spot for our first cup of coffee and the morning paper ... which were both waiting for us on the buffet outside our door each morning. The breakfasts were out of this world ... a different treat each morning. And the inn keeper, Bruce, could not have been more gracious.

Sets the standard for B&Bs

This was our first trip to Maine, and not only will we return to Maine but we'll make sure to stay at the English Meadows Inn. We felt Bruce's warmth and hospitality as soon as we pulled in. He came out, greeted us with open arms, helped us with our bags and made us feel like honored guests in his home. He patiently walked us through all the possible activities and restaurants in the area (which I'm sure he must have done hundreds of times before, but it didn't show!), as we were unfamiliar with any of the local attractions. And there are few better ways to start the day than with a three course gourmet breakfast. I'm still salivating over the apple puff pan cake...

Simply the Best!

My husband and I wanted a nice get-away together before the arrival of our first child, due next month. We chose the English Meadows Inn in Kennebunkport, mainly due to the excellent reviews here on my trusted source, Trip Advisor, and we were not disappointed.

The English Meadows Inn was the perfect choice. Located in a great, peaceful location, yet just an easy, short walk (8 minutes max, sidewalks all the way) from the center of Kennebunkport village and Dock Square. Bruce, the Innkeeper, was wonderfully helpful and a great source of knowledge, for all things in and around Kennebunport, and beyond! This man certainly knows his stuff where food is concerned too! From the lovely English afternoon tea, the fantastic three-course breakfast, to his restaurant recommendations in the evening. He was always spot on! Being from England, I can vouch for the excellent pot of tea, and the Strata served at breakfast was out of this world.

We stayed in the Tack room with it's queen brass bed, fireplace, whirlpool tub and separate sitting area, and the little touches that the Inn provided were perfect. Everything from fresh flowers in the bathroom, to chocolates by the bed!! No detail was overlooked. All this and all for such a reasonable rate too.

Our only disappointment is that we were only there for one night! However, we look forward to returning soon, and would recommend the English Meadows Inn to everyone. Go and check it out for yourselves, you won't be disappointed.

PS. The English Meadows Inn has a great website too, and it's even better than you can book online. So convenient.

A dream away from home

In 2005 I booked the English Meadows Inn for my wedding guests - without having visited first. While that could have proven to be a mistake, my guests and I had a delightful experience. Bruce went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and provide any level of support we might need for our wedding weekend - including driving a relative to the train station in Wells and buying special bread for another relative with allergies. The facility is very clean and comfortable. And the breakfasts are amazing.

My husband and I visited again last month and had an equally enjoyable experience. With a little less pressure on us from our last visit to English Meadows we were able to really get away from the chaos of our normal life and relax in Maine. With lots of good reading material available in every room, we could have moved in for months! Bruce is making many wonderful updates to the property and continues to cook some of the best breakfasts!

The English Meadows Inn is cozy, charming and delightful!

My college roommate and I spent one "reunion" night in Kennebunkport to celebrate a mutual milestone birthday. The English Meadows Inn and Bruce the Innkeeper were welcoming from the moment we arrived.

After a fabulous dinner in town, we came back to the inn, lit the fieldstone fireplace, drank some wine and reminisced about our college days. The elegant yet cozy "English" surroundings in the carriage house of the Inn made for a most memorable evening.

Sunday morning, in the dining room, surrounded by beautiful antiques, fine bone china and lace curtains we were treated to a lovely breakfast, including poached pears and a mushroom, asparagus soufflé. Delicious!

We enjoyed our stay and Bruce's warm hospitality so much that we have decided to make this an annual trip!

Surpassed our Expectations!

Quaint and Pastural Charm! English tea and a wonderfully hearty and refined breakfast included. Stayed in the Cotswald cottage with our three kids and felt like we were in another time. Much more charming than Kennebunkport Inn, and pretty close to downtown - 2 minute drive.

Wonderful Experience

from anonymous

The English Meadows Inn is a beautiful bed and breakfast with a great location near the center of Kennebunkport. The innkeeper is extremely helpful, going above and beyond. He helped us find restaurants, made reccommendations for things to see and was always there if we had a question. Making reservations was easy; we got exactly what we wanted and the rates were very resonable. One of the best parts was the amazing breakfast. This was the best B&B I've stayed at in the United States and I would reccommend it to anyone!

A Delightful Experience

from anonymous

I just spent two night at English Meadows B&B and it was absolutely wonderful. I have stayed in several B&B, both here in the States and in Europe but this may have been the best! The innkeepers were gracious beyond words with many helpful suggestions. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside the beautiful inn. The food at breakfast was delicious and each morning was a culinary delight of surprises. I would highly recommend staying at English Meadows if you are in the Kennebunkport, ME area.

What a Gem

from suz4travel

My husband and I stayed at the English Meadows Inn for one evening in August 2005. We had the small Surry Room and it was beautiful. Nothing is overlooked at the Inn. Bruce. the inkeeper, takes obvious pride and joy in his establishment. All our comforts were met. Everything was clean and orderly and well cared for. Breakfast was supurb in a beautiful dining room. Each table is set like an elegant English tea room. The location was perfect. A very easy 6-8 minute walk or less to everything Kennebunkport has to offer. We would definitly go back and would encourage others to stay if Kennebunkport was their vacation destination!
