... we took a 1.5 mile hike into the canyon with the best display of the layers showing a distinctly /green lava flow.
We started on the trail at noon, and the sun was unrelenting, we were at high altitude already and the trail climbed steeply and it was hot. But it was so worth it! The trail winded back and forth over a dry creek - there were 12 bridges we had to cross.
The rock is blue/green-and the photos do not do it justice.

... was back in the tent - by the side of a football pitch! The website we use tells us all the places we can camp for free so sometimes there's a campsite, others times it just says it's free to camp there. Well this was one of those times and we snuggled Rosie into a quiet corner away from where 100 kids were playing football and settled down for the night. It's not so bad here actually, there are very clean toilets and hot showers so not bad for free!

... posh people in the Sleeper Car), or the Dining Car, which anyone on the train could use. We went with the Parlour Car, and both tried the club sandwich. It was okay, however the New York cheesecake with strawberry topping that I had for dessert was positively devine!! And that's coming from somebody who doesn't usually eat cheesecake!!
Lunch was barely over and I was into siesta mode, which was interrupted by people taking dinner reservations. Way more fancy ...

... Great digs, with showers, kitchen, washer/dryer, and even internet. At the Church I met Ariel and Bethany from Maryland they too are west bound cyclist almost finished with there journey.
