    ... incorporated carved pieces of walnut into the work. They were really beautiful. Some of the glass reminded us of the super high quality work done by our friend, Al Garber, in New Haven, whose lamps, sun catchers and other decorative pieces still adorn our house.

    And, p.s., the truck's complaints had vanished this morning... so no hour-plus trip to uncertain expense and delay to get it fixed.

    ... telescope to radio interference of any kind. Because of that, there is a ban on the use of all sorts of things -- including digital cameras, anywhere near the telescopes AND a complete ban on cell phone use -- and towers -- in the whole valley! Thus no cell phone service! I don't feel so bad now that I know it's for a good reason!

    On the way, though, we decided to stop at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, which just happened to be right on our way. What an amazing place! i don't know if all of the tour guides are as good as the one we got or if we just lucked out. She not only knew her spiel and did it so well that it didn't sound canned, but she had answers to all of our questions. And Walt threw quite a few her way!

    ... Then Thursday we'll come back and see what the Durbin RR has to offer.

    for now, I've gotten onto FB and managed to tell several people that we have very little communication, so I'm feeling a little less cut off than I was an hour ago. As I write this, though, I remember that when my parents traveled after they retired, they had no internet and no cell phones. They went to the pay phone at the campground once a week and called home.
