... to stay upright, though not so gracefully. As lunch time approached, we made our way south, eventually taking the Upper and Lower Hootenanny Trails to the Soaring Eagle lift up to Top of the World. Sandy and I got lunch to-go from Hoots and brought it up to the condo to have lunch with everybody. Then we headed back out to hit the slopes some more. Steve is a good skier and enjoyed showing off - at one point, we was skiing ...

Many of the rhododendrons and other trees were heavily weighed down with snow and ice and were ...

The Climax design sports a single piston on each side of the boiler, mounted diagonally, with the force transferred thru a series of gears to two trucks under the firebox-and-boiler and two more under the (integral) tender. The wheels are small -- maybe 18 - 20 inches in diameter -- which ...

... for an enormously powerful, if slow-moving engine.

That makes it easy to chase... as long as there are roads and vistas. Those are in somewhat scant supply but not so scarce or hard to reach as to deny us a gratifying morning of picture taking. One of the vistas was at a swinging bridge that spanned the Greenbrier River. We took pictures of the bridge, and ljw went part way across, but we decided the vegetation would block the view of the train, and it would be very ...
