... a very skinny path and full of massive rocks, and along the way there were many other vans, 4x4's and other vehicles that had simply overheated and some weren't even half way up the track. We managed to survive and once we got up the top the views were absolutely breathtaking! Here we technically were in Lesotho and in amongst the local Basotho people. Here we stopped at the highest pub in South Africa and had lunch. We both had mountain sausage which was awesome, the food ...
Sani Pass, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa mbsteve... aching from the two hour horse ride, so we cancelled our hiking plans and decided to go into town to catch up on the blog. We spent all day slaving away in front of the computers to bring you all a little more news from our trip. THE LACK OF COMMENTS HAS US VERY DISCOURAGED- WE'RE WORKING HARD FOR YOU PEOPLE!!!!

That evening we finished Dexter, and now we're waiting on the edge of our seat for the opportunity to see season 3!

Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa kickthrough... with a token bit of barbed wire marking the border, defined by the watershed – when the water starts flowing the other way you’ve crossed! We had a gloriously sunny day, but it was still pretty chilly up there in winter, with a covering of snow on the sheltered side of the hills.

The part of Lesotho we were in was pretty much devoid of any signs of life – snowy mountain vistas stretched out with only a couple of small settlements, collections ...
Sani Pass, Lesotho rachelandmike... to camp there but the offering was a self catered house for 6 people which we happily accepted as well. We departed immediately for a hike to see the bushmen paintings close by. The 30 minutes walk took almost an hour, but was very nicely leading ...
Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa silo... quite a bit in SA. This was no exception. Our half day outing would have us rolling in for dinner around 9pm, which would become our norm for the trip. Never let it be said that we didn't squeeze a lot into our adventure. The first part of the drive was pretty uneventful as it was mostly highway. When we turned west off the highway though, we got into the foot hills of the Drakensburg and the scenery became more and ...
Sani Pass, Lesotho woolly... years old mountains, imagine! Ascended from 1900 meters to 3255, up to a very arid landscape. Lesotho is a pure mountain country, where the lowest entry point is around 1400 meters. Visited a village lady, and we enjoyed a cold beer at the highest pub in Africa :-) Next day I drove with Anna and Simon, a very nice couple from London, to Durban where I planned to catch a bus up towards safari land.
Lesotho, Lesotho yfjellSimilarly to Fiji, where villages were almost entirely sponsored by Coca-Cola, everything in South Africa seems to be following suit, although the sponsors vary from Kwik-Spar to Clover as well as Coca-Cola. Even some schools are sponsored. Leaving Durban I passed by Mighty Mouse Pre-School! How cool would it be to go to a school run by a cartoon super-hero?! Taking what I thought would be a detour off the main tourist route, by mode ...
Sani Pass, Southern Drakensberg, South Africa froglin81... smilling all the way into the next month... Terence headed off to Bloem again the next morning, and his bike was in hospital soon for a full repair. In the end, the damage was about R35000 worth -God bless BMW insurance, who didn't even bat an eyelid, and the whole thing was sorted (including a new engine from Germany) in no time at all. All in all, it was a a great trip, and i'll definately do it again - watch this space!
Underberg, South Africa bonovasa... some tourists around. He mentioned that 3 blokes had already dropped there bikes that morning... Could understand why, because even though the pass isn't really that difficult to ride, there is alot of bike, 4x4 and 4 wheeler traffic to contend with, and sometimes you find yourself in some very rough stuff just to avoid a collision... After that, we headed off on a footpath to get ...
Underberg (Heimville), South Africa bonovasa... full of. Truly horrific. Some of the things my great aunt Edna may not have owned though were the pots with the zebra's mating or the monkey having a play with himself. Not too sure if anyone would own these monstrosities! I did however make a very tacky purchase myself that day a wood carved Zulu, dressed in his traditional regalia and holding a spear! I think he's great. My ...
