... Lake Huron, thus the need for the famous Soo Locks that equalize the water levels enabling boats and ships to move from one lake to another. It was so cool being in the lock as the boat slowly rose 27 ft and then lowered 27 ft on our return trip. The Soo locks are controlled by gravity. So happy we did this and would highly recommend it. ... at Whitefish Point was amazing. Not to be missed if you are in this area. Very well done- a smaller Smithsonian. The staff is full of facts, history and stories they were more than happy to share. There have been over 6,000 shipwrecks and over 30,000 lives lost in Lake Superior. There is a functioning lighthouse you are permitted to go up in. The beach surrounding the museum is covered with sand, driftwood ...

... the highway and with bridge works you have stop lights as it is only one lane this was happening the whole way to Sault Ste. Marie. Saw quite a few derelict or abandon homes and motels by the highway. Petrol getting low stopped at Wawa Esso $141.9 and even here motels and petrol stations were boarded up. Another stop for bridgeworks just outside Wawa Police Station and a copper on the other side booking ...
