Rainy days in Durban

... in Durban is limited. Despite almost constant rain, I've enjoyed walking around the city a bit and visiting several small museums.

Tomorrow I'm heading up into the northern Drakensberg mountains, where I hope the weather will be good enough to hike and ride horseback over the next couple of days.

It had turned out that Mandy the mental, machiavellian ***** had approached Danny while we w**e sleazing on the women and told him me and Dean had said we w**e glad he was going, and that we w**e not really his friends as we had been slating him all day. Dan was obviously gutted and we w**e way too gone to have a conv ...

Durban and American civil War Part Two...

alright boys and girls left you on Tuesday. Anyway Wednesday ended up a messy night and felt like death the next day but forced myself to get up and do stuff. Anyway the southern American who were in my room now turned out to be top blokes and we spent the day sight seeing and walking around parts of town which i belief are not safe to walk around, but it was all good. so that was a productive day.

Thursday evening kind of tried to get ...

We thought that there were going to be five of us sleeping there and there was one big bed and one small bed, so we said that we had sleeping bags and didn't mind sleeping on the floor if that was easiest ...

Never have I been so excited by a grocery store

South Africa is really... white. Durban is dangerous at night and there
is a huge mall. They have blackouts every day for two hours at two in
the afternoon, and even the malls shut down.

Savoring My Last Month in South Africa

... botanical display in South Africa. The cycad and palm collection on the 38 acre property is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Among the garden's 480 tree species are the oldest jacarandas in South Africa, originally imported from Argentina. We then took an unplanned detour to the township, Inanda, where Thami grew up and currently lives today in his childhood home with his father, two sisters ...

And tonight you will be...George Michael

... Bumping into them was about as appealing as listening to another lecture on the best way to bring a mushroom to the boil. However, on our last day I thought I'd take a quick look at what they had to offer. Suddenly, woman appeared from everywhere. Obviously they were attracted to the large bulge in my shorts which contained exactly what they wanted. Money. Bracelets and necklaces were tied and clipped all over my body. I could have been back stage ...

The Baz Bus Trip to Durban

... parents welcomed us, tried to teach us a bit of the language, and gave us a lukewarm bean-and-white-bland-potato-like-substa nce stew, which apparently is a Xhosa staple. Here you see what I meant earlier by the main facet of the culture being poverty. This is not some amazing, different dish. This is a dish created out of necessity, by buying in bulk two cheap ingredients and mushing them together before heating them over open fire, leaving a massive pot of it in the ...

WORDS AND IMAGES: From Street to Sea

... through this less-than-upstanding neighbourhood in the city. The huge ocean waves and smooth sand seems miles away. But I can't stop to take out change to give them-something I usually do without a second thought at another time, another place in my life. "You'll be mugged" or "Hold on tightly to your handbag," I have been told again and again. No matter how hard I try to fight it, it's a warning I can't shake off. ******** A bag of potato chips and maybe some ...
