... to the summit which is a couple of thousand feet above the valley floor before retracing my steps to join old Route 66 as it wound through Cajon Pass, a valley created by the San Andreas Fault. Another quick stint on I-15 followed before that road headed west to Los Angeles and I-215 headed south to San Bernardino. After a mile or so I left I-215 to follow Route 66 into San Bernardino. ... to the Cajon Summit. From the top, the Interstate plunged down towards San Bernardino in one long sweeping anti-clockwise loop down the valley of the original course of the road to L.A. from the east. There are several railroad tracks this side of the pass as the railroad traffic is enormous. The tracks take a much longer course naturally and we could see trains queuing to climb the pass from miles away.

My Thanksgiving was really nice this year. It was the first in a while where my grandparents were unable to make the drive down from Washington state to San Diego but I got to see my grandfather before Thanksgiving. In fact we got to give him a tour of the school and go out to a local restaurant. All which he approved of. I'm grateful that I got to spend the holiday with my family (last year I was celebrating Thanksgiving with a Chilean twist.)
