... seaplane gave clues that a whale might be in the vicinity and, sure enough, we soon saw a spray of water as a Grey whale surfaced about 100m away. We watched for about half an hour, trying to predict where it would surface next in the hope that we could swing the camera in its direction quickly enough to get some good shots. We were only partly successful, but at least have some proof that we did indeed see a whale!

... for half an hour to catch the 10.40am crossing to Nanaimo.

The ferry crossing was 1hr 40mins but unfortunately there was a lot of cloud around so the views were only good instead of the exceptional we think they could have been if we could have seen further. Out of the ferry we started our 4 hour drive across the island (it’s a big island!) to Tofino. We stopped a couple of times on route, once to do a rainforest walk around ...

... mum saw this soft toy dolphin that she said I could get! She is called Madeleine. I also got a magnet that said Future Marine Biologist. Maybe I will be!!

we got cookies at Zoe's bakery. Then it was time to go home where we played beach football then boules then frisbee. By then we were hungry so we went to the Chinese takeaway and got exactly what we always hAve in Bodmin.

Now I am going to watch The Croods.

... moss hanging from the branches of towering Sitka spruce.

At the hot springs, there was pit facilities and dressing rooms, it took some time for Dad and I to get to the springs safely as the rocks were quite slippery, the water is very hot, so getting in the water was an interesting feat. We both felt cooked when we did get out, although enjoyed the tranquility of the gift of mother nature.

... a true North American experience they had to have! On the second day we went hiking and lots of it! First was only an 800 meter walk, but mum freaked out by the sign at the front of the park stating, "please use caution, bears and other wildlife use this track". Well this must've been the fastest 800 meter walk/sprint we've ever done! Then onto x2 rainforest walks ...
