... in El Paso, which was the last roadside hotel we stayed in; what a bargain.

Tomorrow we're off to Mt. Rushmore where we will actually be meeting Mary's cousin Nancy, daughter of her Godmother Agnes, who we saw earlier in the journey. Believe it or not Nancy is on a 3 month journey with her husband Steve and we are 100% coincidentally going to be at Mt. Rushmore at the same time they are. Wow!

... It is 9,603 feet above sea level. It was founded by white settlers in 1859 in search of gold. It is now a all season recreation and holiday destination. It has world class ski-ing and in summer offers hiking, bike riding, rock climbing, fishing and kayaking.

It still has a lot of timber historic buildings that now house boutiques, restaurants, cafés and bars. We were surprised to come across a Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant.

... on this trip. And from here on, we were in the mountains and at high elevation for the rest of the day. We passed several mountains along our route and one of them, Mt. Antero, is taller than Pike’s Peak, topping out at over 14,260 ft. The top of it was up in the clouds.

... that the rain would stop and the rides would start again but as there was no sign of that we decided to continue our drive. although it was for a short time, the kids had fun at the ski resort. Our next stop was Arvada, a suburb of Denver. We spent the night in a motel and started in the morning towards our last national park on this visit, rocky mountain national park.
