Historical Traveler Reviews Dunromin B&B Kilkenny

Best B&B .... period

from anonymous

My wife and 3 kids stayed with Val and Tom in July 2005. They were the best hosts, including playing Golf with Tom at the Club. There is no possible way to tell you how wonderfull this B&B is. All I can say is that I booked it after reading a review that described it as the BEST in all of Ireland, and this may well be true. Over the past 5 years I have travelled in Ireland on 3 different trips, and have covered the entire country from Kinsale to Portrush, Wicklow to Dingle, North and South. Staying with Val and Tom is literally worth the trip all by itself.

The rooms are clean and nice. Val's trip-planning for your days around Kilkenny is invaluable.

Among 5-star B&B's,.....this one is THE 5 star.

Warm and inviting B&B

from Mez

Dunromin B&B is exactly what a B&B should be--warm, friendly, & comfortable. Val and Tom are the most gracious hosts and made us feel at home. There are only 4 rooms in this property, so you really feel like you are a house guest. As soon as we arrived, Val made us tea and coffee, and gave us all the information we would need to enjoy our stay in Kilkenny. She even looked in the newspaper to find a place for us to go and listen to traditional Irish music one night. Definitely went above and beyond to make our trip memorable.

The room was good-sized and comfortable. It was also very quiet. The bath was small, clean, and provided us with everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious. There was the traditional Irish Fry, but there was also cereal, fruit, and yogurt. There were 2 other couples staying there when we were, so we had breakfast at a communal table. It was nice chatting with them and comparing travel stories.

It's about a 15 minute walk to Kilkenny town center, but there are tons of cabs that are easy to catch (at least on the weekends) if you're feeling lazy at night.

We would definitely recommend Dunromin to anyone wanting a true, B&B experience. Very good value for the money!

A great place to stay - great hosts!

My wife Jane and I stayed at the Dunromin for two days in November 2004. Val was a terrific hostess, helping with travel advice, information, a plethora of pamplets, what to see, what may be a pitfall. My wife had a bad cold, and Val even had some remedy for her, which worked well. Tom, her genial husband, helped us out as well with advice, and played a little sing a long on his accordion to "Molly Malone", a song I actually knew. Jane and I enjoyed the full Irish breakfast, and Val and Tom accomadated special requests. We wanted for nothing and received much. Nice folks.

The room was clean and had all we needed, and the bathroom was roomy and well equipped. it is close to town center, a brisk walking distance to anything. This B&B and its owners were a high point in our trip.

The Best

I have stayed with Tom & Val twice and had the best time with them. I hope to return one day in the near future. The most hospitable B&B I have stayed in. Great base to tour from.

Good Luck Val & Tom!

Lovely Family Stay

from anonymous

We have relatives in Kilkenny and wanted a pleasant home base from which to visit. Our room was perfect and the hospitality first rate. A wondeful hostess with great suggestions specific to our needs. A first rate breakfast as well. I would highly recommend a stay at this establishment.

A 10 star experience at a budget rate

from anonymous

I wish Trip Advisor had a 10 Star Category.

Tom and Val were wonderful hosts they are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Tom played the accordian and lead the guest in song at breakfast. The dinner recommendation was great. Here's an example of the standard they set. The 10 year old daughter of another family did not want to break her record of over 500 days without missing a day of piano practice. They mentioned this when booking the room and our hosts had the piano tuned for their visit!!

Our family room was very big - even by U.S. standards. The room was beautifully decorated and immaculate. Easy walking distance to the shops, restaurants and Kilkenny Castle.

We stated at 6 B&Bs during our visit and this one was the best.

The Best in All Ireland

from anonymous

Have visited Ireland often and stayed at Dunromin each time, sometimes for a week. It and it's owners are the best of a great bunch of B & B's. Val & Tom make sure everyday is a terrific one

My favorite B&B

from anonymous

The best B&B I stayed at. The other ones were also very good but this one was the best. Down home hostpitality, great breakfast, and if you catch Tom just right mood maybe a little Irish folk music. He's a good musician. Dunromin is walking distance to town , the place is pretty and clean and hosts are very friendly. I will DEFINITELY be back. Also Kilkenny should be at least a 2 night stay as there are 3-4 places you will want to see there.

Excellant Place To Stay

from anonymous

My Sister and I had an extended stay at Dunromin this past summer. We had stayed in other b&b's in Ireland, all very nice, but we were not expecting the hospotality which we received from Mr.& Mre Rothwell. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. The breakfast was excellant. Tom & Val are two of the nicest people I've ever met. They do everythig possible to make your stay there enjoyable and they will help you anyway they can. They have on hand many compiled pamplets and books about thing to see and things to do. Such a plesant place to stay.
