After skipping breakfast (because of the UHT melk) we wandered towards the Markt Square calling into many shops along the way. Bruges is unlike other major tourist towns we have been to in that it isn't flooded with souvenir shops. It is a bit like a normal large town with a lot of old buildings. I remain totally amazed that these people speak more than one language. Their native tongue is Flemish - really weird sounding language - apologies to the Belgians! - but most of them can speak French, English and German. ... bustling center square and surrounding streets, but all of old Bruges (inside of its gates) has the cobblestone streets and medieval structures, many of them sitting on shimmering canals, covered in green ivy. ... checking out the windmills, climbing the 366 stairs to the top of the Belfry Tower, eating Belgian chocolate and taking a ton of photos of the city itself. It was a wonderful couple days.
