Lovely sail in to Newport this am. This is a city I really want to come back to and stay for a few days. So much to see and do! We went for a walk along the famous "Cliff Walk" a public pathway right along the ocean that is open to all and goes right in front of all the famous mansions. We ended our walk with a tour of the Vanderbilt's home, the Breakers. Great audio tour so you could go at your own pace. Reminded me of Downton ...

... giant mud puddles everywhere. We both indulged in long hot showers then packed up after breakfast to start on our list of things to be accomplished. Before we even got out of the campground, our next door neighbor came and found us and wanted Sheree to take a look at her arm. Rhode Island is the smallest American state according to P&O, an accolade which I thought belonged to Hawaii, with only 1m people living on the 1200 square mile island. It was settled in ...

Newport, Rhode Island has been the scene of many Australian 12 metre yachting disappointments, starting with Gretel way back in 1962, until Australia II's ultimate triumph in winning the America's Cup in 1983!

Australia II's last minute win ended sport's longest running cup defence - when the America's Cup, held by the New York Yacht Cub for 132 years, was finally lost to an Australian challenger!

Some days are good, and some days are GREAT! This morning we took a shuttle from the Sippawissette campground to the harbor where we caught the Island Queen ferry to Martha's Vineyard. The cruise over was picturesque. The shoreline was crowded with beautiful yachts and sailboats and big Cape Cod style homes with their grey cedar shakes. Morgan said the ride over was "heaven". Along the ride, I made friends with a lady from the area who gave us ...
