    ... thru 4 tunnels and into Pompeii. Guided 2 hour walking tour of the ruins of Pompeii city destroyed by Mt Vesuvius eruption in Oct 79 AD. Wow in tour only covered about 20% of city as so massive. Had population of 15,000 thousand people within city walls and sea came right to city walls. The sea around 10 km away now. Amazed once again at roman technology. Visited Cameo making ...

    ... of course, did not rain during dinner, so the boys were still lobbying to play mini-golf (the bouncy houses were shut-down), so Laura and I braved a quick round while the rain started, eventually getting hard enough that we stopped keeping score and just ran through the last several holes. At least it made the boys happy, since they were grouchy about limited sand and missing out on the bouncy houses.

    It rained most of the night.

    We packed up and headed out on a shorter drive this morning - this time the end destination is the Adriatic coast, but first Laura found a castle that hits all the right notes in the guidebook so we are going to stop there on the way.     ... off to find a restaurant and eventually settled on Japanese, of all things! The food was plentiful and excellent. Best meal I've had in quite a while! After dinner we walked down to what is billed as "the largest town square in Europe ". Admittedly it's pretty big. Very impressive! Lit up of an evening it looks fabulous.     Let's just get one thing straight first. The photos are from my time throughout the trip. I took no photos of this day, I couldn't at first due to flash photography but after that, I lived too much in the moment and forgot.
