Mary and I love Durham city. We also like the surrounding area of Seaham and Murton. Lots of history and you get a real feel of how the people in Northern England worked and the changes they have been through, especially since the end of the coal mines, railways, ship building etc.
The Durham Cathedral was built in 1093 to house the shrine of St Cuthbert who was from Lindisfarne - another great place to visit.

... bit of time so we decided that we didn’t have enough time to go into town for a bit of tourist shopping, so instead we found an Italian restaurant and had a lovely lunch. I’m not sure how time slipped by so fast but it seemed like all of a sudden we were pushing to get to the ferry on time so we quickly paid for lunch and headed for the car.
