... hundred yards to find him sitting in the ditch beside the road, pretending not to be there. We got some good photos of the beautiful patterns in his feathers. Just down the road at 13.51 we got a photo of a scrawnier bird in the middle of the road.

We got back to the Eielson Visitor Centre and decided to stay with the bus (rather than wait for a later one, which could be full) but used our half hour to walk down the road, and be picked up by the bus on the way ...

Day 22 Anchorage 11th September

Our last full day in Alaska, and it finally came out fine. Hubby loves all things technical so after a leisurely morning we had decided to visit the Aviation Heritage Museum near the airport on Lake Hood. It was a very impressive place, full of memorabilia, exhibits and with a good film – we learned all about the role the state played in WW2 ...

... especially out on the Spit. We had a very big afternoon at the Salty Dawg Saloon. Stumbled back to our digs at the Charters, after dining at the downstairs restaurant. Great view of the water from our room, saw seals having a play. Next morning we took a nice long walk to visit another Glacier (literally thousands of them in Alaska). We then decided to check out the Dip Netting that takes place at the Kenai and Russian rivers on the peninsula. Amazing. When the salmon ...

A day around town

... ladies, he decided he would walk around and explore downtown. He started by visiting the husky near the start of the Iditirod Race which is also in downtown Anchorage (and then spans 2,450 miles through the state to Nome - whoa!). He loves people watching, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Native Alaskans sing and dance in their native language the "Hokey Pokey".
