    ... sides.

We decided to get a few ciders in before heading to check in at our beloved YHA hostel. We deserved a few drinks tonight if we couldn't do yet another activity! We had the whole afternoon free and we were abit away from the town, so we decided to get our frustrations out by going for a walk around the Kaikoura peninsula. We walked along the coast until we saw a seal casually chilling out on a rock. She was so cute and seemed unfazed by us but of course we kept ten ...

... to his ankles from the rocks propelled against him by the powerful wash. As we tried to leave the site, we found that only two of Fenton's wheels were touching the ground. Apparently, we had spent the night wedged on a large boulder. A couple of carefully placed stones soon freed us and we were on our way. The wind is raging, mountains have disappeared in a shroud of cloud, and to top it off a troop ...

... you can go and visit an enclosure of an animal and fail to see them?! Alastair and I were so disappointed. When we told Josie (Who actually chose not to see a kiwi unlike us) she laughed. However the owner guaranteed us free entry the following morning... (To be continued). We then went and had dinner on the sea front, walking along the stunning beach. This beach was covered with driftwood art including a huge double bed (complete with fairy lights), literally ...

For years and years and years, Kaikoura has been on my 'To-go' list as it is one of the best whale spotting locations. The reason for this is that the Kaikoura Peninsula extends into the Hikurangi Trench which is around 3000meters deep and just 80 kilometers off shore in Kaikoura. The deep water rich in crayfish and plankton is the perfect fishing grounds for the whales and dolphins. The most common whale found here is the Sperm Whale. .
