Delta Good one

... for the first time on my trip, I felt like the only tourist witnessing something authentic and very Brazilian.

We arranged a high-speed boat trip along the Delta do Parnaiba – a river delta containing several islands - from the port of Tatus for the day (rather than taking the cheaper, bigger party boats which the Brazilians favour). While not seeing the Caimans that I hoped for, the landscape was ...

Delta de Parnaíba...hmmm casi

Parnaiba

... at 8 the bus came to take me on the tour. There was ment to be 4 people but this Brazilian came out to reception wearing his swiming stuff so didnt come - that left me and a couple from Canada in their 40´s-50´s. He was a diplomat and so traveled a lot with work, They had lived in 9 countries and right now were living in Sao Paulo. We had a nice tour along some mangroves past sand dunes (climbed one) and then ...

We ...

... waving and more to the point, laughing at us. If I hadn´t already felt like a freak show in Brazil for being so pale skinned, I sure as hell felt like one now! There is a offshore rock reef in Maragogi - so we did a bit of snorkelling. Hannah´s first time - and everytime she panicked she grabbed hold of my neck trying to save herself and drowning me in the process. Little exageration there - to be fair, the water wasn´t very deep, even though we were about a mile out to sea ...

I have found paradise!

... with other tourists, mainly Brazilians. It was quite amusing how most people assumed we were Argentines, as Marisel and I have of course been speaking Spanish with each other. Argentines aren't very popular in South America, so I have found out... We headed back to our pousada in the late afternoon and had the most relaxing and wonderful evening there. Most tourists visit only for the day, which meant we had the whole town practically to ourselves. We played in the calm ...

From Dusk ´til Dawn in Jericoacoara

... which are paved, making shoes an unnecessary hinderance for anything other than going to the toilets (which, like most in Brazil, ming). The stunning beach is framed on one side by the enormous Por do Sol dune and everynight about 5.30 almost the entire population of the town treks up to the top to watch the sunset - a walk which is well worth the effort. I came here to meet up with my friend Daniela, but before disembarking the bus I had already found three English ...

Overnight in Parnaiba

... bus to our next place. This is across the delta at Parnaiba. Were going to do a boat for this bit but takes 7 hours and we are a bit boated out still. Bus arrives at 15.00 and we pay our 15 Reals each for a couple of hours ride to Parnaiba and flake out on the way.............. Get to Parnaiba bus station and try to find out about buses to Camocim where we have to get to next. Next bus leaves at 19.00 but there is standing room only left ...

Onward to Tutoia............

... A very bumpy ride hanging on still for dear life And oh yes, a thunder storm starts! So we pull down the plastic sheeting from the cardboard roof to protect the babies mainly but I proceed to get more wet from all the water running down the side of the sheeting next to me! At this point Dave reminds me of my saying that its all about the journey! We arrive in Tutoia a couple of hours later at 15.00 having only spent 15 Reals each so far! And its stopped raining.
