... TravelPod" is a complete pain in the a@$ to use. For our 2010 "Radical Sabbatical" trip to Asia, I'm switching to another web service.

But, I've promised myself that I'll update this blog before we leave Naples...

Moral: Don't Let Ash Fall on You!

Ola Kala: simply, OK (in Greek). No time for lots of flap.....we're on the go. The Vatican Museums await us (and we can hardly wait to do more walking!). Enjoy the pictures and we'll fill you in on the adventure next time I make the time to sit and gab.

We're still having a grand time!!!!!

... half of the ruins, but saw some really amzing stuff.
Pity we couldn't get into the large arena as it was blocked off and looked really impressive from what we could see from the outside.

Naples - best place in Italy so far...

... 6 or 7 music stores in 1 block- one of which had guitars, lutes and other stringed instruments dating back to the late 1800's.

Also discovered that the food options in Naples are a lot better than northern Italy with a lot more meat based snacks and fried snacks available to eat whilst wandering the streets.
No wonder northern Italians are so skinny and short - their food options for decent snacks are so limited compared to the south ...

Napoli

... it was complete with graphic drawings and small rooms with stone beds. We also saw a few theatres with boxed seats and big lawn areas where people went to mingle during intermissions. There was a big sports complex with a hole where there was a swimming pool. The little city had vineyards and public garden areas too. It was very erie to walk down some of the deserted roads because it was very easy to imagine what the bustling town would have been like long ...

L' antica Pizzeria "da Michele"... YAY!!!

... fun though, but I had to keep using my mantra of "wait till south america, wait till south america" to not buy jewellery. Mind you, after Joe and Julie bought crazy cool Afghan hats and we headed back to buy Michelle one I noticed tehy had some really nice lapis and turquoise necklaces. Because Sonia (one of the American-Pakistanis) could speak hindi the guy said he would give her stuff cheaper when we left. I pointed out a necklace I wanted and she got it down from 20E to 12 ...

We went to Naples... and survived!

... walking around the ruins. Pompei was a city that was destroyed twice by volcano eruptions. It was somewhat interesting, but was mainly boring... how many semi destroyed houses can one possibly look at? If you're that interested, you could go to Iraq or something and see some freshly destroyed houses. - Saw some plaster casted victims from the eruptions which was kinda freaky... especially one that was half sitting up who looked like he was about to get up. It ...

Fuming Mt Vesuvio, Buried Pompeii and Bella Capri

... with breath taking views abounded. Trying to get away from the glitz and the glamor l caught the bus from Capri town to Anacapri (1.30 Euro one way) a charming village on top of the beautiful Monte Solarno which offers fantastic views over the Bay of Naples and the endless forest of pine trees from the balcony outside the famous Villa San Michele. I walked through the tourist lined streets of Anacapri watching leather shoe makers perfect their craft for tourists ...

Naples and Pompeii

... Considerable damage was done but artisans were brought in to reconstruct the city and over the years it began to return to its former glory. Then, on August 24, 79AD at noon, with no warning whatsoever, Mt Vesuvius erupted and, within two hours, the entire city was covered with six meters of ash and lava and Pompeii disappeared off the face of the earth. People were unable to escape and perished in mid-stride. The city lay buried until the 1800's when its treasures were uncovered.
