After an afternoon arrival into Queenstown on Sunday we enjoyed a lazy evening re-orientating ourselves to this small but booming town for this our third visit. It is stunningly situated on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin lake formed by glacial activity which is responsible for forming the landscape in this SE corner of NZ that is known as Fiordland. Fiordland is a World Heritage Listed area renowned for its fiords, deep lakes, rugged ranges with sharp peaks and narrow valleys and ...

We commenced the day some way out of town at the free camp round the lake. I did 7mins of circuits and then 10mins of interval running around the lake path. We decided to fast after our indulgence the day before and since we stopped eating at 18:00, a sixteen hour fast meant breakfast at 10:00. Nades came to meet us at the rivers edge at the bottom of the hill and got Boh into the cold river water to cool the stings a little then headed straight off to the vet to check her over. Half an hour later they were back and Boh had been given an antihistamine shot and some more tablets in case the stings swelled up. She was in a much better state by the time Ma arrived home and we all headed off to an A&P (Agriculture and ...

... and then we were off, ice exploring! The walk, about 2 1/2hrs long, was simply spectacular, both in terms of the ice path on the glacier we were walking along and the views all around of the glacier and surrounding mountains. We walked through several ice caves, across crevasses, alongside icy streams and up to a roaring waterfall. Our guide jack was great fun (and informative) and altogether it was such an incredible experience I shall ...

... of them holes tested your patience! Then onto Queenstown! A great town! A night-out-every-night town! We caught up with lots of people that we had met along the way and got to spend some time relaxing. This is the home of the bungee and other extreme sports. I went horse riding just outside of Queenstown, in the mountains and through a glacier valley. Again it was a setting for LOTR and also for the opening scene in the second Narnia film, Prince Caspian. It was the ...
