A whistlestop tour of Sydney

... 8211; lovely. Fish and chips for dinner (barramundi not haddock) a good way to end the day. Well not quite …. Our hotel turned out to be apartments and we were delighted to find that it had a washing machine and dryer. It was an unexpected chance to catch up on the laundry. This worked well until the machine hit the spin cycle at which point it took off across the floor leaving its lid behind! We had to grab hold of it and hang on until it stopped – 9 mins later!

The mother of all updates

... mins and just stand there and not join in the conversation, they were like her minders!! Anyway that night went to a pool party with some of the guys and there was a lot of ball dropping, Hoss being the best ball drop of all time…she was a stunner, I did some ball dropping of my own as I was on the chase for the English girl. Anyway eventually get her alone for a bit and then get smashed and head down to beach, party with her all night and get rid of all of her minders!!! ****ing ...

Are we ready?

... she has loaned us on the Netherlands, offering reassurance that Amsterdam has much more to offer than its liberal reputation might suggest.

And Jolanda, for a few simple, yet poignant, words of encouragement from a friend who is always an example of how to reach hard for what you believe in. Is that a Dutch thing?

I have a husband who got behind this idea from the start, my two boys whose excitement kept the ...

The preparations...

... feel free to donate whatever you can. If you're in Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj area and would like to help me get set up or give me advice on staying there, please also feel free to do so. All constructive advice will be warmly welcome.

For now, this is where I am. Just near Sydney. I am working on my body fitness to help it cope with the next phase of this journey, as I know it will be tougher than usual. But to be honest, I can't ...

My trip to South East Asia

... preparation for the trip up until this point, has been far from hassle free, as Dave has to fly from his home in Perth to meet me here in Sydney, but also, we must coordinate the air flight tickets with the visa entry and exit dates for Vietnam.
I am still waiting for the postman to deliver my new passport as my previous passport has expired and so must go through the whole process once again. However that has ...

The amazing city of Sydney!

... bars and restaraunts around here ive been led to beleive. The hostel itself is pretty good and ive been lucky as ive been staying with Sebastian and his friend Sonia and her 3 friends in our 6 bed dorm so it wasnt a bad crowd in the room. For the first two nights i was on my own in the room as the others didnt arrive until the 30th but it was ok as i knew Phil and Hazel were in town for those few days so we would hang out.

On the Tuesday i arrived i got into town around ...

Had a bonzer time

... only took 10 photos of the opera house as opposed to the 150 on the previous two occasions) I walked around the Rocks again and then took the ferry to Watson's Bay.

Watson's bay is located at the entrance of the whole Sydney harbour and you can view the Pacific Ocean from it. After having a wander round (and almoste inadvertently trespassing on an Australian naval base) I decided to go to this place called "Doyles" which do amazing fish and chips. I ...

Sydney... our first week in Oz!

... week in Sydney so we decided to take things slowly, (we didn't want to see the entire city on our first day) so our first destination was a wander through Chinatown to Darling Harbour. Darling harbour isn't the main harbour you imagine when you think of Sydney (i.e. Opera House and the Harbour bridge!).... but it is a really cool area with loads of great bars and restaurants, an aquarium, zoo, museums, huuuuge shopping mall and ...

Sydney: The Return and New Year fun

... principally because of its gigantic Dinosaur skeletons and the fact that the museum had a BBC Nature Photographic exhibition on there. Some of the photos were fantastic and depressingly showed me up to being the useless photographer that I am. The rest of museum was interesting enough with a floor dedicated to minerals of different kinds (Australia being a big mining country) and also a floor with hundreds of stuffed animals. These might be a ...

Octopus' Garden

... the course concentrates on all the things that might go wrong and how to deal with them. Having to remove and replace the mask was ok in the pool but went a little bit wrong 10 metres beneath Sydney Harbour, but thanks to an excellent instructor the position was recovered with only a little inhaled water, and I was happy to go straight back down to wave to Davy Jones. I can't deny that there were moments when I ...
