The train had to stop on a siding so the driver stopped just where the rocking painting was so the passengers could take pictures. While we did this the engineer walked back for a coffee and the conductor got off to pick greenery for his vase of flowers. Think it was called Tyee.

... and the travelers on their way through to somewhere. It's about 60 kms outside of Prince George and well worth the stop, if only to marvel at the construction materials. The logs have to be at least 80 cm in diameter! Huge! They offer cafe style food and in their display counter I spot all their different pies, cherry, apple, strawberry and rhubarb - they look extra delicious - and the strawberry and rhubarb certainly delivers on expectation! Yum! ...

... we went through Vanderhoof - the geographica center of British Columbia. We finally got to Prince George British Columbia's northern capital. This was a large town and a nice one with lots of things for tourists. Unfortunately we were late and were only able to look around at these but we did manage to have a nice dinner at Cimo ...

... there is an elk right along side the road . . . Carol could have touched it but didn't . . . she asked it to smile, but he said no, that his mouth was full grass along the highway!! A couple of great shots right from the car with the window down!!

We got some breakfast . . . back to Smitty's . . . and it was very tasty. They weren't busy and the service was very good.

Next was to fill the vehicle with gas before turning it in . . . and it wasn't ...

... heading the opposite way. If they keep logging like this, there won't be any trees left in Canada!!! The pine trees seem to have a disease. They are all brown and dying. We found out later that a pine bark beetle is destroying all the pine trees. They estimate that 80% of all the pine trees will be destroyed by this beetle. Evidently the only thing that stops them is cold weather, and this area of Canada has not had a cold winter in many years. Joe is thrilled ...
