... the driving and the rain eased and eventually stopped. Jenny must be getting used to my driving as she dozed off. Our drive into Homer was clear and beautiful. As soon as you hit town up on the hill, you can see three glaciers that overlook the town. They dominate every view of the place. I walked along the beach and you could see the glaciers.

We woke up to a light rain this morning.

After getting everything ready, we were off for breakfast at the Talkeetna Roadhouse. Chris and I have stayed overnite here on a couple of occasions. It is a taste of old Alaska but has also gotten more modern than it was the first time I was here in 1984. There is a menu now and choice of food!

The overlook just as you get to Talkeetna is one of the best views of Mt McKinley. No luck ...

... It was fabulous. I had a pasta dish with local halibut, clams and scallops. This after a salad and calamari strips. $ meal we've eaten in Alaska yet we all said. No leftovers for Jake...he's not fond of fish.

... around and so we continued to remain cautious (and chatty).

As we continued our trek toward the glacier the terrain changed from old growth to new growth forests. Instead of lots of tall, old spruce we were surrounded by more young cottonwoods, baby spruce trees, thick brush, lush ferns and small flowers scattered about the forest floor.

As we got closer to the lake the terrain changed one more time to a 'washout ...
