We didn't travel far today, just down the road to a lovely provincial park set in the mountains. The road into it was dirt and in most places single lane. We were hoping that we wouldn't meet anyone, as it would be many kilometers to back up. The lake is a popular fishing location and was really beautiful. after setting up the RV, we drove down this four wheel drive track to Quartz lake, where I went fishing and Jo sat in her camp chair high up on a cliff knitting socks!!!
Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada brentandjoWhen i had finished at the stables i head to Fort Steele which is at the base of the Rockies. I choose this host as due to my funds dwindling away and i will be unable to do a trip up and through the Rockies by car or bus. But as i said this host is at the base of the rocky mountains so i hope to see great views. OK so another crazy 9 hour bus journey to Fort Steele but unfortunately the bus doesn't make it and ...
Fort Steele, British Columbia, Canada scottiedogCrossed the Rockies, left Jasper National Park behind as we travel through the Kootenay region, past Fort Steele and stop at Cranbrook. Hope the truck is ready as promised tomorrow, we will drive to Kalispell once more and re-visit Eureka MT on the way. What gorgeous weather we have been granted!
... where we started across the border to the States on day one. The weather today was much better.
The ride was great, all roads stayed at least 2 lanes, and no crazy turns. We did have one small problem with the communication system....We were driving along chatting and the sound in my helmet went funny....then Todd couldn't hear me talk. I checked my cords and found that the connection had been resting on the exhaust pipe and melted...the cord came loose from the clip. What a ...
... a Mountie who was based here to resolve issues between the local aboriginal tribe and settlers back in the 19th Century. It is beside the river that the miners had to cross during the gold rush time and started to build on this geograhic position. However it was initially favoured as a stopping point for the railway network but this did not come off and the residents dwindled away and the Fort had become a ghost town. interesting enough my parents visited Fort Steele ...
Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada prieststrip... question he asks me is said in a quiet voice while he looks at his computer screen, away from me. Those of you who know me, know I have a hearing loss. Whenever I ask him to repeat the question he never turns his head to speak in my direction, he never raises his voice, he simply continues to repeat the question at the same volume and continues to talk to his computer instead of talking to me. I end up leaning my head through ...
Fort Steele, British Columbia, Canada graybeard... dinner. We went through Jasper National Forest and Banf National Forest and they were both beautiful. Breath taking sites kept coming turn after turn. Lots of traffic and tourists though. There was also alot of construction too. We're not sure if we're going to make it to Oregon. We might just stop in Montana.
Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada akhiker... we've been on. The hostel is up to a very high standard though. We feel like we're only a stone's throw away from Calgary (where we fly home from), but we're not going there yet! We hope to see Banff and Lake Louise and Yoho National Park before then. PS Thank you for the offer of a home-cooked dinner Kristina, we'll look forward to it. xx PPS Hope the gardening's going well Rachel and James. Claire will be delighted to help to. xxx
