Today started sunny and we set off walking. Walked up hill and then down to the edge of Lake Derwentwater, to Hawes End, then along the shore to High Brandle How. Beautiful scenery of hills and the lake, but got wetter and wetter.

... very popular and not very big. Some busy planting on a limestone crag was mildly interesting but overall it didn't really live up to the write-up in the brochure in my humble opinion even if Alan Titchmarsh had featured it on his Love your Garden TV programme! Not a garden I will be in a hurry to return to, methinks.

Anyway, having soaked up the sights and the sun, we climbed back into the trusty red C3 and headed home to put up our feet and have a lazy Sunday ...

... found the beer weak and demanded it be "Twice Brewed" in time for his return from fighting off Scottish Jacobite raiders. We then found the wall and started a walk along it. ( actually next to it, you cannot walk ON an ancient monument.) Folk "walk" the whole wall, 73 miles. Walk described as "moderate" but rain and mud made it more like "strenuous".
