Historical Traveler Reviews Courtney's Place Key West
Nice Get Away
Just got back from Key West and liked Courtney's Place very much. We were only there one night, wished it could be longer but they were booked. We stayed in a room on the first floor next to the common area.
Our room had a king bed with nice linens and we had french doors leading out to a private enclosed patio with some chairs and a small table. On the patio was a fridge, coffee pot, fresh coffee beans and a grinder for a morning cup of coffee and a pair of wine glasses, ice bucket and bottle opener if we wanted to enjoy some wine. Although we were close to the public space, it was quiet. The room was a good size and offered ample space and was decorated nicely. This isn't a super fancy b&B but the place was very charming, quaint and laid back. It was nice to be in a place that had character. Staff was very friendly.
Quaint, minimal....laid back.
Just returned from a 1-day stay at Courtney's Place with my husband, sister and her husband. We shared a 1-bdrm (two twin beds in LR) apartment. The rooms were okay.... no luxury hotel.... but quaint, minimal and clean. Although we did not bring any, pets are welcome, which explains the worn furniture and inexpensive linens. Room smelled very nice. Breakfast consisted on assorted breads (muffins, bagels, donuts - all store bought) We were comfortable and the rates were very affordable. The place was clean. The decor lets you remember when you were 20 and had your first apartment. All in all.... a nice experience.
Spent little time in room, A/C worked fine, two TV's w/cable were too.
Room had full kitchen. Very old time Key West where things are laid back and people didn't complain so much.
Loved Courtney's
I have been to Courtney's two times and would go there again in a minute. It is a wonderful place where you can really appreciate Key West instead of being at a chain hotel. It is in a great location and has a free breakfast in the morning that offers a little bit of everything. They rent bikes at $10 a day. The people who work there are very helpful and knowledgable about where to go.
Return guests
Hi,We've stayed at Courtney's Place for 5 spring breaks now and wouldn't consider anywhere else. We travel with grandparents, kids and friends and the cottage we rent is perfect for all of us. The cottage is clean, and well kept. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is great and off the beaten path and out of the fray. The breakfast is a nice addition. If you want something different than the average hotel motel, this is it.
Courtney's Place a Bargain
Our family of 13 stayed 3 days at Courtney's Place. We found the rates a bargain, especially since we got one free night. The rooms ranged from small to huge, with one room requiring a steep climb up steps to get to the beds. The breakfast was super, with a great variety of items that went beyond the traditional continental. The only drawback was the presence of cats in the eating area, including on the table. The location made it perfect for access to Duval, yet it was a block away so it was quiet. We'd stay there again.
Courtney's Place
My sister & I visited KW via boat off Marco Island a few yrs back. This
was my second trip to KW and having stayed in a "chain" hotel the first
time around, I would have to encourage staying in the small B&B type
atmosphere's. Courtneys was awesome, location, location, location.
Atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere. Very fine breakfast, grounds, room
(who hangs there?). Sitting on deck with tropical trees and listening
and seeing birds of probable toucan variety - what else needs to be
said. Very nice lodging for reasonable prices. I'm looking to visit
winter 2004 for husbands 50! This will be on the top of our list for
lodging.
Quiet, Funky and a place to return
We just returned from a trip to KW where we spent 3 nights at Courtney's Place. We loved it here. We stayed in room 19 the first night which is actually the front part of a shotgun cottage, complete with porch that buts up against the sidewalk. The room was clean and fresh with a VERY comfortable bed. The bath was quite small, but you don't stay in a conch house and expect anything to built to a large scale. The second and third nights we stayed in a room at pool-side. Although not quite as nice as the cottage it was again clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. This place has the essence of the old KW charm and ambience. Don't expect large hotel amenities like 24 hour room service. And if you are allergic to cats you will probably want to go somewhere else, like Miami. But if you are looking for quaint, clean, charming and convenient give this place a try, I think you'll enjoy it. We sure did.
A great experience
My wife and I got married a couple of weeks ago in Key West. We booked a total of four rooms and everybody loved this place! The staff was very helpful and friendly. We felt like it was our place not Courtney's. It's location is great, tucked away a block and a half from Duval, everything is walkable. Free breakfast, not just stale donuts and bagels either, a full spread. A great place to stay!
Shocking and Dreadful
My family has been to Key West many times, and we sometimes stay at different places. Upon arriving at this place, we were greeted in a polite way. The pleasentness only lasted about a few hours. We then realized that our air conditioning was broken(in 85 degree summer heat). This would have been fine except their many emergency numbers were all disconnected, and everyone in the office goes home at 6. We slept miserably in a 80degree stuffy room with no fan. The next morning we got no apology, and a reluctance to fix it. The next night, as we hung out in the room, the power went out. The power was out only in our room , and there was no way to get in touch with someone to fix it. We had to buy a flashlight and candles at a nearby store, and survive in the dark. The next day, again, we got no apology. We were told that there's no way that it could have happened, and if it really did happen, it was our fault. Upon leaving, we were not apologized to. However, we did get rude screaming and hollering when asked for some sort of apology for the weekend. It is in a great location, but that's the only good thing about the place. There are many other little inns in just as great of a location, but with classy service. I was appalled that this place was still in business and that they were AAA rated.
Very neat place to stay
Hi All,
We stayed overnight at Courtney's place while on a diving trip in September of 2001. It's in downtown Key West, within walking distance of the action. The room was actually a very quaint cottage and had lots of character. It was clean and comfortable. The pool small- just big enough to relax in, but is was surrounded by lots of lush tropical vegetation. I actually want to copy the pool area in my backyard. Parking is a little tight downtown. Don't rent a Ford Expedition and plan to easily naviagate the side streets in Key West. I enjoyed the experience and am looking foward to staying there when I visit again. I would feel comfortable bringing my family too. If you're looking for a stay with a little more character than the MEGA CHAIN inn give it a try.
