... part of this huge state.
When we got to Fredericksburg, Texas, we were in the so-called "hill country" area. I still have a hard time understanding their use of the word, "hill", as I have seen nothing that could be considered a hill back home. There is, however, some undulation in the topography which gives some interest to the landscape. Also, there are trees and foliage that make the country more interesting.

We considered giving the LBJ Ranch a miss since we had already been there when we were this way a few years ago, but someone at the LBJ Library in Austin told us that the public now has access to the Texas White House. Historical Traveler Reviews Cottages at Limestone on Main Fredericksburg
Cozy and Relaxing
Cottages at Limestone on Main was our first bed and breakfast experience, and we weren't disappointed. Carol and Joe were perfect hosts - friendly, but not intrusive...and, my goodness, those breakfasts! They worked around our dietary requests and served up wonderful meals both days we stayed with them. Our little cottage was lovely, and so clean and fresh that it seemed like we were the first people to stay in it. The cottage had a wealth of reading material from current magazines to novels which we enjoyed while rocking on our private porch. I think we're now spoiled for a normal motel stay.
We enjoyed a most delightful Christmas weekend at the Cottages at Limestone on Main in Fredericksburg, TX. Our cheerful host and hostess treated us so graciously! The cleanliness and attention to detail of our cottage speak volumes - from the jet-tub, down comforter and Egyptian cotton sheets to the luxuriously decorated living area with fireplace and kitchen. Our hosts outdid themselves by providing us not only the local visitor-guide-type materials, but also a typed listing of all area restaurants open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day -> we selected one for each evening and had two lovely dinners, Eve in Fredericksburg and Christmas in Luckenbach. On top of that, we were treated to delicious meals, including eggs baked over creamed spinach, home-baked pastries of several varieties, fruit salads tailored to the holidays, juices with iced berries, and more...all very delicious! The cottages are located on Main street, a short walk for us to enjoy the holiday lights and the shopping. This visit was unlike any B&B experience we've had. We bragged to family and friends before even leaving Fredericksburg!
We stayed at the Cottages for three nights over Thanksgiving and had one of the most restful holidays I can remember. The cottage was clean as a pin and well appointed with a high ceiling that made it feel very roomy. The breakfasts each morning were superb. The hosts, Joe and Carol were very gracoius. The location is great. It is within walking distance, but far enough away from the tourist area to feel somewhat secluded. We would not hesitate a second to recommend it to anyone.
Though we live in Southern California our roots are in Texas as are many of our family members. Usually our trips back involve some family function. Recently we decided to fly into San Antonio a couple of days early and make the one-hour drive to Fredericksburg to "borrow" some time just for ourselves. We chose the Mainstreet Cottages from their online site mainly because of the privacy afforded by the separate cottages and their good reviews here. The cottages are relatively new buildings with all the amenities one could ask for including king size beds, tasteful furnishings, Jacuzzi tubs with shower, cable TV, private phone lines and a full kitchen. Our hosts were gracious and the full gourmet breakfast was excellent. The location, close to the historic downtown with the numerous shops and restaurants, yet set back away from Main Street so that you feel like you are in the country, is perfect. Though our "borrowed" time was too short, we certainly plan to allow for more on our next trip and revisit Fredericksburg and Mainstreet Cottages.
Loved Fredericksburg Texas B&B Mainstreet Cottages
It was our first visit to a B & B and the Main Street Cottages will be a hard act to follow. Our cabin was very quiet, sparkling clean, the decor is adorable and then the grand finale was a delicious (and huge) breakfast delivered to our door.
Quiet, Clean and Comfortable
We stayed at the Cottages on March 18 and 19, 2004 and found them to be spotless and a quiet refuge from the hububb of Fredericksburg. Although on Main Street, the Cottages themselves are a good 50 yards from the road and seperated from the hosts house by a large hedge. The privacy is outstanding and the hosts are so gracious. They bring you your breakfast in the morning on a silver tray and are very knowledgable about the town and surrounding areas. They are probably the most sincere hosts we have ever run across. You will not be disappointed here.
Charming, Quiet, & Delicious
Guess it was just Good Fortune that sent us to Main Street Cottages when we first searched for a B&B in Fredericksburg. We've been back a second time and would not think of staying anywhere else. Doris & Wilfried Heuer are like favorite relatives. Everything guests would desire offered with warmth and sincerity: immaculate cottages of good taste, peace and quiet atmosphere, and best of all --the lavish breakfasts served on silver trays by the Heuers to your door. Nothing is lacking here!
Only the Best - Fredericksburg Texas B&B Mainstreet Cottages
You can enjoy the convenience of it's location without having to give up any privacy. It's extremely neat, yet still cozy. You'll have all the peace, privacy and tranquilty you'll need. You'll leave wishing you had more time to stay.
Wonderful Fredricksburg Mainstreet Cottages
My wife and I spent our 3rd anniversary at the Mainstreet Cottages in Fredericksburg, Tx. The cottages were warm and quaint, neat as a pin, a home away from home. The owners are honest, kind, and very friendly, down to earth people. Our cottage was spotless every day. I can't leave out the breakfast they served, homemade, delecious, fresh and hot, and you must be very hungry to finish the very large quantity of this morning meal. To sum up our stay at the Mainstreet Cottages, it couldn't have been any better anywhere else. I recommend this B&B to everyone.
Mainstreet Cottages(The Best in Fredericksburg)
I have visited Fredericksburg the last two years(2002,2003) for Thanksgiving and stayed at the Mainstreet Cottages. My experience with the people that owns and manage this facility has been great. They are very friendly and they make every effort to make your stay perfect. I am booked for 2004 for Thanksgiving week and looking forward to see my friends again knowing that I have choose a great place to stay.
