Historical Traveler Reviews Coral Cove Resort Little Bay

Can't Wait To Get Back

from jamaicabound3

I am just getting to write this review to respond to the false statements given by one of our guest. I would have written sooner but my husband and I had to move due to Hurricane Katrina. My husband and I got married at Coral Cove 6/4/05. We traveled with family and friends to Coral Cove 6/2/05-6/6/05 (my husband and I left 6/5/05 to start our honeymoon). We had problems with the group travel agent but NO Problems from Coral Cove. First the whole group received a discount. Secondly the first letter I sent to everyone who would be attending, specifically stated tip would not be included. Tip was 10% per day based on original room rate(not discounted rate I think the discounted rate was 12%or13%). The trip price was $1000 per person which included airfare, shuttle to and from resort, food and drinks. The shuttle fees were included. Tours/excursions were not included (just like they are not included at any other resort). Also Ritchie the manager stayed with the group when they went out and there was no time limit on how long they stayed out. (That luxury is not given on tours and taxi cab rides)

The lights were off 12-13 hours not 36 hours. The lights were off on that whole part of the island. Unfortunately that happened during our wedding reception. The staff jumped on the problem quickly. They provided lighting, water to flush the toilets, the food was still served hot for the reception and breakfast the next day, and the band moved closer so we could here them play.(many places in Louisiana are still without lights) As far as the lobster issue--lobster was out of season. It is against the law to serve lobster when they are breeding. My husband and I paid for the reception and picked our menu which included shrimp, jerked chicken, salad, soup, jamaican patties, rasta pasta, rice and peas and wedding cake. The bar always had alcohol. I had pina coladas and rum shots the whole time I was there. Tell Fishie(bartender) to give you a shot of rum when you get there. The resort was recovering from the hurricane but there was still flowers and gardeners attended to the property every day. Even with recovering from the hurricane Coral Cove was beautiful.

Steve Zindars the result owner is wonderful I was able to contact him the whole time I planned the trip. The ladies were wonderful the food they cooked was excellent. They also were very accomadating. My kids and I are vegetarian they always made sure we had something to eat. My nephew does not like seafood he always got chicken. All you had to do was ask and they tried there best to attend to everyones needs. They brought my mother-in-law her breakfast every morning. They also kept our rooms spotless. Ritchie the manager was also wonderful as well as the bartender and everyone else I forgot to mention. Patrck who provided transportation stopped on the way and everyone was able to get jerked chicken, pork, pineapple, and coconut. The road in to Coral Cove is very bumpy. I hope it stays that way. It keeps criminals out. It was so safe at this resort I allowed my kids to play outside as long as they wanted to. My niece and nephew were also with them. I walked and biked into town and had a drink with the locals, I visited in peoples houses and played with their children. I never locked our door and we even left money out to dry (without any problems).

Our wedding was beautiful. I did not have to worry about anything. The night before our wedding Isabelle(wedding coordinator) surprised us with a party which included a band and "Uncle Sam's" jerk chicken for the meat eaters. The little girl who sang could win an American Idol. The wedding was beautiful the resort was decorated nicely. I felt like a princess.

The first morning there my huband and I awoke to the nice breeze coming through the windows and the waves crashing against the coral formation. We thought we were dreaming.

I learned from this trip do not bring people who can not appreciate the little things-- the waves crashing against the shore, the beautiful sun rise and set, the breeze blowing through your hair, the salt water on your lips, the fresh fruit, and the quality time spent with family, old friends, and the new friends I met (the staff)and the beautiful people of Little Bay. That is what Coral Cove is about.

My husband and I will not be able to make it back for our anniversary but we will be there in July 2006. We can't wait to get back Mrs. Jeans pumpkin soup and coco bread is calling my name.

The Perfect Beginning

from anonymous

Coral Cove was the perfect atmosphere for a small cozy wedding. Isabelle worked very hard to make sure the wedding was exactly what we wanted from walking down an isle of bright flowers to downloading my favorite song an hour before the wedding! She was so adamant that it was our day, and it should be perfect! My favorate part was the wedding ceremony. It was absolutely stunning! The columns and chairs were draped in white tule with yellow silk ribbons, and the isle was covered in pastel flowers, all right on the beach just a few feet away from the beautiful carribean water. It was like a fairy tale. After the ceremony we took pictures on the cove as the sunset, and the water gently splashed up on te rocks. The transition from the wedding ceremony to the reception set-up was seamless. One moment we were taking pictures the next we were seated and eating delicious jerked chicken. Then came the reception! Our beutiful and vibrant MC made everyone get up and dance all night long! She was amazing! We had a blast. Over the next few days of our honeymoon we were so relaxed. Our room The Doctor Bird suite was lovely. You could see the entire property and the ocean from there. It was peaceful, and very romantic. The staff made us feel like we were staying with family, for every meal Keisha and Kim would come get us to let us know the food was ready. And the food was incredible! Fresh jamaican cuisine three times a day! In between meal times we visited the three open bars on the property, and often times Fishy came over to make drinks for us. Fishy also took us on a tour of the immediate area where we saw a bat cave and a swimming hole. My newly-wed husband wouldn't let me swim though. But the tour was fun! All in all it was a great eight days, and I can't wait to come back again.

Thank you Coral Cove!

I think my wife Adrienne sums up how wonderful Coral Cove was. I never imagined a wedding that was so warm, and special as the one Coral Cove made possible for us. We arrived at the airport, and met up with Patrick, form there we made the JOURNEY to Coral Cove. Driving through country side, small villages and then LITTLE HOPE ROAD......WOW! Out in the middle of what felt like no-where came this beautiful resort that immediately took our breath away. The entire stay was perfect, without flaw. All of my guest, LOVED IT. They all especially loved the homeliness of it all. They said that it was true Jamaican living outside of the tourist world. Fresh food, not hamburgers, ocean, not pools, beautiful fish, lovely grounds, and of course the ALWAYS stocked bars...I think I enjoyed that the most. Isabelle the staff, including the wonderful ladies that blessed us with every home made meal, Keisha, Kim, Fishy, Richie, Patrick, and anyone I may have missed made it perfect and we thank you. The wedding DJ's even made me CD's of the new reggae songs to bring back with me. Coral Cove is truly a hidden gem in Jamaica and hopefully it remains that way.....We will definetely be back......along with all our guest.

Thank you for making the most special day of our lives, the most wonderful beginning of FOREVER.

The number 1 most romantic place on earth

from noshu

If you have had enough of the daily grind and need to get away with someone special. THIS IS THE PLACE. These are the most gracious people I have ever met. These are the country people of Jamaica. The rooms were spotless and had a heart of roses on the bed when we arrived. As soon as you get off the plane and see Richie holding the Coral Cove sign,( He's the guy wearing a smile as big as Texas), your no problem vacation has started. He will take you to a place you will never want to leave. The girls at the house keep the place spotless and cook the most delicious meals we have ever eaten. (Everything is Fresh) The bar was stocked with anything you could want. A walk or bike ride to Little Bay is a must. The people are so friendly. We took a boat trip to Negril and checked out numerous caves. On the way back we did some deap sea fishing.(Very Reasonable Fares) Check out Bob Marleys house. This is definately the Most Romantic place we had ever been. We spent our 25th Anniversary here and we are trying to spend the rest of them here also. If you cant kick back and relax here I'm afraid there's no hope for you Mon. If you want to e-mail me its mmnoshu4u@aol.com I can talk about Coral Cove forever.

Not All was well...

from anonymous

I was at Coral Cove June 6th-10th. We had a group of 25 together for a wedding. We were promised a 10% discount for a group rate, which we did not recieve. We asked a number of times for a reciept or invoice. We were told that the staff could not provide one. At the end of the trip we were told we had to pay a $60.00 staff tip per person. We were told that all taxes, tips, and airport transfers were included. Well, the transfers were not included and the advertised and quoted rate of $16.00 to the Coral Cove shuttle went from $16.00 to $40.00 per person. Also, we were supposed to have lobster ,as in the contract; for the wedding dinner which we did not

get. A bar was supposed to be fully stocked with premium liquor and wine as stated on the web site and in our contract. No wine was on hand and no liquor that anyone has ever heard of was served. No scotch. They did offer to get us some for a heafty fee. Don't believe the pictures on the web site. Lush lawns and gardens are rocks and dead patches of grass. Also, we went without power for 36 hrs with no running water since the power also ran the well. I was so glad to return home and plan a vacation from my vacation.

Above and beyond in every way!!!

from anonymous

Well... we just got back from Jamaica and we already miss it. Coral Cove Villa was everything we thought it would be and more. We spent 9 days at the villa spending time with our family and friends, getting married and honeymooning, and can't even begin to express how much we loved it. The staff at Coral Cove are the absolute nicest people... they were always accomodating, enthusiastic, and carried thru with the "no problem" attitude of Jamaica. Isabelle Stewart... the wedding coordinator, was amazing and made sure that my every desire was met without putting a worry on me. When we were there there wasn't much of a beach in front of the villa, but they were actively fixing it to get it back to what it was before the hurricane. About a 100 yards down the road there is a pretty nice beach that is available to the public though that no one was at when we were there. The snorkeling was great... the boat ride to the lighthouse, negril, cliffs, caves, etc were amazing and something I definetly recommend. The food at the villa was ALWAYS amazing and there was always plenty of food. The view was beyond anything you could imagine, and the ocean was crystal clear blue. The rooms were very nicely done... but the lack of air condition in some of the rooms made us quickly change our minds to move to the air condition room. Once there we were as happy as we could be. We also went into Negril several times and ate out... but nothing was as good as Jean and the crews cooking, and no one was quite as nice. The road to little bay from Negril was pretty rough, but definitely do-able. We stayed one night at Point Village Resort in Negril with some family members and Coral Cove was a million times nicer in EVERY way. Now mind you, this place is not for those of you who want to be doing something all the time and be entertained all the time... it is for those of you who know how to relax and enjoy laying in a hammock, snorkeling, interacting with the locals, and relaxing while eating with nothing but the ocean surrounding you.

Well, with that said... we had an absolutely amazing time at Coral Cove! Our days began with waking up and looking at our view of the ocean and hearing the waves crash on shore, putting on our swim suits for a quick snorkel, eating breakfast which usually consisted of fruit, eggs (cooked usually as a quiche or caserrole), ham, bread, and juice. We would then go lay in the sun with no one around us, take a walk, snorkel, or take a trip to Negril. We would then do lunch and have some drinks which usually consisted for us of a daiqueri/ colada, sandwiches, salad, and pasta and bread dishes. After this we would talk to the staff, play some board games, take a nap, or read in a hammock. Dinner was always a highlight with candlelight, the waves crashing around you on the point and the best meals ever. Looking at the stars at night and listening to music on the verandah while having a night cap was the end to our day. Overall, our trip to Jamaica and stay at Coral Cove Villa was above and beyond in every way. If you have any questions you can e-mail me: amelia_joshua@yahoo.com.

Good food, good service, good times..

from anonymous

I stayed at Coral Cove recently and loved it. It's a beautiful, intimate, and secluded location where I could really relax. My favorite part of the hotel were the meals they provided. The food was AMAZING! Lots of seafood and chicken with Jamiacan sides. I always had plenty to eat and I am a good size guy and so are my friends. The snacks are a little lacking, but I didn't notice because I was too busy taking advantage of the open bar.

The staff was great and very friendly. The rooms are ridiculously beautiful and clean. I thought it was great that each room was different and unique.

The beach is large but pretty rocky from hurrican Ivan but the cove makes for fantastic snorkeling.

The hotel is in some small fishing village. This was great because I got to see how most Jamaicans live and not the sunny tourist side of Jamaica. I really enjoyed riding a bike through the village, meeting some of the locals, and stopping at small shops. The local Jamaicans are great to talk to (if you understand them) and they are not pushy and annoying like most of the people around the tourist areas. If you want to go to the tourist part of Jamaica and go to a club or something, Negril (big party spot) is only a half hour away. I found myself not really needing to leave to often. I went deep sea fishing, tubing, spearfishing, snorkeling, and visited some caves all through the hotel. The deep sea fishing and tubing wasnt included so I had to pay extra for that though.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I have been there twice and the hotel improved 100% from my first time to my second time so I will have to come back again to see how fantastic it will be in the future.

A little piece of Heaven

from anonymous

I just returned from my jamaican honeymoon. We spent 5 days in Negril and 5 days at Coral Cove in Little Bay. The time we spent at Coral Cove was very special. The property is lovely, although the staff insists the beach and greenery are still recovering from Hurrican Ivan. If you are looking to relax and be taken care of, as if you are one of the family, I highly recommend you add a stop at Coral Cove to your vacation. I miss making the tough decision each day of whether to start the day reading in the hammock, lounging at the beach or snorkeling in the bay.

Don't Be Fooled - Coral Cove Inn Little Bay, Jamaica

from SkygoddessMiami

If you want very rustic with limited possibility of escape you might want to stay at Coral Cove Inn in Little Bay, Jamaica.

However, the descriptions given in their material falls very far from the truth. The staff was very gracious and tried to be as accommodating as possible, but they are operating on a shoe string. Food and drink choices were extremely limited and sparse. The beach was non-existent and the pictures were taken long before Hurricane Ivan.

There was constant construction going on while we were there (very late into the night) and unless the driver was available you had no way out. There were no phones, clockradios, some rooms had no mirrors.

The roads to the Inn were washed out and you are staying in the middle of a tiny village with nothing much to do.

Perhaps if the government were to restore the roads and the area has time to recover from the hurricane this would be a good place to stay. But I cannot recommend it at this time.
