... a lovely two-bedroom condo in Kailua-Kona, right on the sea, with the sound of surf crashing over the black lava rocks lulling us to sleep each night. The condo had a kitchen, so after doing a Costco/Safeway run, we were able to cook most of our meals in the room. ... to go further and b) both me and the car were showing signs of altitude sickness. So we came back down and returned to Hawi where we had super ice creams from a renowned ice cream parlour called Tropical dreams - delicious.
Waimea - there is a town near here called Waimea which is real cattle ranch country and seems completely out of place in Hawaii. apparently they breed cattle here and when they are 6 months old ship them to Texas for fattening. They are ...

... old Hawaiian town... Just beyond that, we stopped at the King Kamehamea statue which was commissioned and cast in 1878. On to Keokea park. This park is a great place to picnic and surf... We watched a couple of surfers here. This place is for experienced surfers only as the waves crash on rocks... Alas, my surfer pictures were taken with my other camera..
