... Lake. We had heard from other travellers it was quite hazy down there due to the bushfires started by lightening recently so we were thrilled when on our second day there the haze cleared and we had perfect conditions to see the brilliant blue of the Lake. Our hotel was right on the rim on the crater - formed by a collapsed volcano 7,700 years ago and filled with rain water and snow melt in the 500 years after the eruption (hence the complete clarity of the water). ...

... hundred motorhomes on our way, apparently leaving some sort of get together near Bend. The road is also a narrower two lane, with a speed limit of fifty-five miles an hour. We went through miles and miles of wheat country followed by miles and miles of uninhabited land covered with dry grass. Finally we spotted a few cattle at a huge ranch along the road.

... with magnificent scenery all the way. The Klameth and Rogue Rivers were constant companions winding along beside the road. I thing Noela took some 250 pictures today which is the highest yet.

... the first curve in the road- and hills! The two lane highway has many strategically placed passing lanes to allow the safe passing of slower vehicles. The speed limit is 55 mph the entire length of this highway but that speed limit seems to be ignored by most travelers. We will most likely average 50 miles per hour on this leg of the trip.
