Getting there: a challenge in itself

A travel blog entry by pachi on Jul 05, 2014

Getting to Belize City from Santiago proved to be a challenge in itself. I found the route a travel agent offered us to be roundabout and expensive so we decided to fly to Cancun and then take a Tropic Air flight to Belize City. December 4th, 2012A hop to Toronto, a skip to Houston, and a jump to Belize and, voila we are in Belize city. A pickup by Jason at the airport and a rush drive (crazy road race, dodging oncoming cars, crossing over the double yellow line, narrowly missing oncoming traffic) to the docks so that we can drop off another couple who were headed to Caye …

... TV for the first time since my trip began. There were re-runs of Frasier and Cheers, which kept me going before bed.

A nice early start and I began walking to the harbour. My guide book had another inaccuracy in it, which was annoying. Boats used to go from Belize City to Hondurus on Saturday mornings, but no longer. I managed to find a bus that does, and leaves at 6am tomorrow, though such services ...

... I am staying. But my room wasn't ready yet. So after a quick change, I went out to have a look around. The island was surprisingly large. I spent over an hour wandering up to the top and back down again. Lots of touristy shops, cafés and hotels. The buildings are all brightly coloured, some on stilts. ... all from Zumba), multiple cakes... they have it booked until midnight, but luckily we are so tired that I don't think we will have any trouble sleeping through it. It is not the same without you, D... I am missing my travel buddy and roomie, but hope you're having lots of fun in Phoenix! xoxo.

This is a very nice B&B with friendly staff and everything a traveler needs. The room was clean and comfortable and although we were only there one night at the start of the tour I would gladly stay there again.
