Like to see Caravans Get in here

South African caravan parks are wonderful, providing you can traverse the track in. Note the warning sign on the way in. This was the last sign for some time and unbeknown to us we veered left when we should have veered right at the crest of a sand hill. Well bugger me if the track didn't degrade into something bad, the funny thing was the Hubs were not locked thus I could not grab 4WD, if we stopped we definitely were ...

... only a couple of pounds to get in. I have to say my hopes for seeing anything weren't high but it was great. We started seeing lots of antelope and deer type animals (I have to say my knowledge is limited and I am determined to find out which species I saw). Then we saw some warthogs and their babies, monkeys also with babies, zebra strolling across the road, more hippos and crocodiles and then the piece de resistence 2 big black rhinos only a few feet from our car! Absolutely ...

Happy Halloween! Instead of celebrating Halloween Nikki and I were the special guests in her mom's 3rd grade classroom. The students are currently studying Native Americans, therefore it was exciting to have an American guest. We came in for the art lesson and had the students make Tipi's, totem poll drawings, and feather hand-bands that displayed the Native ...

Hitting the road in South Africa

... while doing an overnight hike. The hostel is your only choice in Northern Drakensberg. It's nice and clean - only a curtain on the bathroom door though. Food was okay. Nothing around it though so you need to bring cash with you, no ATM. Can get cold at there so a jumper is handy. Bar is nice - has a jacuzzi in the middle of it which is quite strange and two computers with Internet. As it is the only hostel you will meet people. We ...

Drakensberg Mountains

Today we headed towards the Drakensberg mountains and a luxury tented lodge to be shared with a family of baboons. This was wild 'luxury' camping at its best!! The following two days were to comprise of team football, walking in the mountains and a trip to the ...

Safari

My Safara was absolutely amazing. We saw 4 of the Big 5, minus the leopard which I could care less about. I saw the elephants and so my life is complete. We have a photo of 3 of the 5 together by one brook. Our guide asked us to send it to him because that's never happend. It was an Elephant bull, 2 white Rhinos and a lioness. Amazing. I'm glad I didn't get malaria or sunburn so I'd say my trip was an absolute success!

Day 2... 17:43

... of the sea was very calming! Kirst has just woken up from her hours nap - how she could sleep with us laughing and giggling in the background I will never know, however, she managed it! Luckily for us, the sea is blocked off from it's recent disaster of a Tsunami (Yes, trust us to choose to live right by the sea after that type of disaster - running away when it happens ...

It's a bird, it's a plane, oops, it's Dave

... It wasn't cheaper than at home, but I figured I'd give it a go just for the "well, now I've done it" sake. In a nut shell, it was fun but not as exhilirating as bungee jumping over the Zambezi. Why? Well, I figure it's because being up at 9000 feet abstracts the concept of plumetting to one's death enough that you don't even think of it anymore. In contrast, when bungee jumping you're falling face first into something with which you'd probably rather not become ...

Goodbye GGA:( , Hello Backpacking:)

... taken him to the hospital when they did, he most likely would have died. So basically they gave him up out of love, knowing they could not care for him. It gave me chills just thinking about it. They have nothing material, but they had all the love in the world for him. I'll fill you guys in at home with more details, because I could write on and on. To make a long story short, it was very hard for all of us to say goodbye. The last few days have been al right for me, but ...

Another shitty day in Africa

... by the resort on one of the Basutu Ponies. He seemed absolutely content on his horse during their 45 min jaunt around the resort. After brunch it would be another day down by the river. Today the water was extremely cold. It was so cold in fact that jumping in literally took your breath away. Somewhat of a welcome relief to the 30 deg heat being experienced on dry land. I imagine it would be extremely ...
