Flew to Milan from Dublin then took the train to Savona to board the cruise. Quaint little seaport town which I wish I had more time to explore. Forgot to take a picture of the ship! Not sure how I feel about a big cruise ship (3,800 passengers) but the price was right so thought I would experience it!
Savona, Italian Riviera, Italy pathengerAs the traffic had been horrendous yesterday we decided to hit the autostrada and pay the tolls to save our sanity and hightail it to our next destination. 130kms and 10 Euro later we arrived in Santa Margherita Ligure, which is just up the road from Portofino.
This place is a bit larger than we are used to and Italian towns all have small car parks and narrow ...
... leaving you with a bright cheery feeling, the sun is shining and there are palm trees everywhere. Anyways back to Genoa the soon to be ground hog's day of our trip. We had checked, checked and double checked our ticket to make sure we knew of any transfers and where they happened. We made sure we were in our rightful seats even we have had to many experiences of getting in trouble for being in the wrong seat and we are tired of playing musical chairs. As we ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy konaduy... the 11C and there aren't any Roman ruins because the Genovans needed to build somewhere so they just built on top of the old stuff! Anyways it is built on a hill and the modern part is at the top and to get there you travel over little tiny streets and even smaller alley like paths where the buildings appear to almost meet at their tops. We also saw the 16th C palaces nearing the ...

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!
... questo blog e penso già alla sensazione che proverò quando scendendo dll'aereo sentirò una ventata di aria calda (e umida a quanto si dice) a darmi il benvenuto.

... Then a stroke of genius! I took Chris’s headphones and tried to hook his headphone around the keys….no success! But wait…Chris’s stroke of genius…Tying my earphones to his Swiss army knife and leaving the bottle opener part open we managed to hook onto the key and pull it slowly back up through the sunroof into my reach!!! 30 minutes later and disaster averted! What teamwork! Never a moment of panic! And thank god because the phone number for ...

Genoa, Italy rambler... some exploring we found our own private beach about .5 a mile down. After a refreshing swim we were content to stretch out on the large black boulders and nap with the sun beating down on us as the waves crashed against the rocks. We probably caught a little more sun than we should have but the beautiful atmosphere more than made up for it. Time to try another bottle of wine tonight. So last night I had wrote and figured nothing else ...
Vernazza, Italy europe060... to enjoy what has to be one of the best tasting desserts I have ever had. A hazelnut spread and bananas inside a warm crepe, drenched in real whipped cream (Chantilly) and served with a smile. We were in absolute heaven. Surrounded by french conversation, cigarette smoke and the open starry sky, the 10 hour train ride was worth it. A few glasses of red wine later, and we are both sound asleep and ready to face another day on the road. Up again making our way ...
