... and I both knew about this trail as we had previously read Bill Bryson's 'A Walk in the Woods' book where Bill attempts to walk the trail. It has since been made into a film so we won't spoil the ending for those who haven't read the book or seen the film. But to be standing on part of this insane trail was quite something!

... what we have had lately probably killed the crowds. It was a really interesting place though. We left before the next downpour and made it back in time for Marty to try to stop the waterfall of water coming down the mast with a quick duct tape fix. It actually helped quite a bit, but we still had enough water come into our shallow bilge to set it and our high alarm sensor off while we were trying to call my parents. ... back to beautiful river views. Our anchorage at Houghtaling Island was very pretty and we felt like we were in a jungle..... the birds were so loud and as the afternoon progressed the crickets took over. In the morning we were lucky to see a bald eagle right near our boat... after the fog lifted a little. We waited a little until it was clear before Marty pulled up the anchor. ... music festival. This festival attracts a wide range of contemporary musicians and singers to the area.

The Berkshires are located at the very Western end of Massachusetts. This area was amazingly green, hilly and heavily wooded.You could see that "Fall" was on its way, with the occasional glimpse of colour change in a few trees. It was clear that the area would be beautiful in full Autumn colour.
