Historical Traveler Reviews Claiborne House Bed and Breakfast Jefferson

Clean, Comfortable Bed & Exquisite Breakfast

I have stayed in many B&B's and Claiborne House definitely met my expectations. It is located in a quaint area of town, very close to the downtown shopping, on a quiet street. The host and hostess gave us a warm reception and offered us a yummy piece of strawberry cake (delicious) freshly made that day. Staying in the Wilde Room with it's very comfortable king size bed and in room jacuzzi/tub, made for a relaxing stay. The breakfasts were out of this world. Elaine is a gourmet cook and succeeded in filling our bellies as well as our souls with her love of serving her guests exquisite and delicious food. The blackberry chilled soup and Brown Betty were unbelieveable! I definitely recommend this B&B if you are ever in Jefferson Texas for a relaxing get-away!

Easter at The Claiborne House B&B

Claiborne House was my first experience staying in a Bed @ Breakfast. WE arrived on Thursday before the Easter crowd; giving us the opportunity to visit all 6 rooms. We were booked in the Wilde Room and it was wonderful; from the very comfortable king size bed to the private jucuzzi for two.

The Inn was clean, bright and inviting. We felt very at home and comfortable during our three night visit.

The Gourmet Breakfast was enough to bring me back again and again. The food was the best, the service was wonderful and visiting with the other guest was fun and informative.

While you are there take advantage of a massage onsite. Overall a very relaxing and fun visit was had by all.

        Nice place

Great room and breakfast. The Browning room we had has its own private entrance and porch. Nice extra.

The Carriage House is the Best!

If you need a much needed night away from it all, I urge you to try the Claiborne House. We got there late at night and were still greeted with a smile and a warm greeting. We stayed in the Carriage House, and I can't tell you how relaxing the environment was. From the friendly staff to the wonderful surroundings, I couldn't recommend a better place for an awesome out of town visit.

        Amazing Hospitality

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast and I think we are now spoiled. Mrs. Holden, her family and her staff were incredible hosts. Her cooking is the best I have experienced outside of a five star restaurant. The loving detail paid to each of the six courses in our romantic candel-lit supper was astounding. We stayed in the Arboretum room of the Evergreen Carriage House adjacent to the Claiborne House. The spacious room and jacuzzui garden tub made a great getaway for my wife and I to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversay. The beautiful and lovingly tended garden with its bubbling fountain was a joy to wake up to in the morning. Definitely one of the best weekend experiences of my lifetime.

        Best B&B in Texas

Our stay at the Claiborne House B&B in Jefferson was wonderful. The hosts

made us feel very welcome. The breaksfast meals were 5 star, complete with crystal and china. We loved it so much, we booked again for next year.

        Outstanding B&B

We thought we had stayed in some great bed and breakfast inns before but after Claiborne House, we now know outstanding! The rooms were romantic, comfortable and cozy. The cleanliness was beyond compare; Lula kept our room, as fresh as the day we arrived. The gourmet breakfast served, in courses, on an elegant table with fine china by candlelight-a very unexpected and delicious surprise. Our hosts, Stephen and Elaine Holden, felt like old friends, warm, sincere and they made their home ours. Will we return? We are already reserved for next year!

        Where you're treated like Family

This was our first time to stay in a bed and breakfast and I must say I never want to stay in a hotel again!!! We were greeted with warmth and sincerity and made to feel like family from the very moment we arrived!!! The house if full of gorgeous antiques and the custom drapery and chair covers were sewn by Elaine, one of the inn keepers! Let me tell you, this wonderful lady can leave your tastebuds screaming for more as her fine cuisine is the very best I have ever tasted!! This was not your ordinary breakfast, this was fine dining at it's best!!!! The rooms are large and comfortable with fine linen and towels folded in the shapes of swans as well as large terry cloths robes in the armoire to relax in after a hot bath in the jacuzzi tub for two. We thought we were in heaven and hated to go home!!!! Steve and Elaine, the inn keepers, will make you feel welcome from the very minute you arrive, so bring your appetite and be prepared to relax in Jefferson, TX at the Claiborne House as you will not be able to help it in the magnificent place!!!! Oh and don't forget the day spa as well, What more could a person ask for after a day shopping for antiques and riding old fashioned steam engines!!!!! We will definitely be back!!!!

A Little Piece of Heaven at the Claiborne House

After more than eleven visits to the Claiborne House, my husband and I always can't wait to get back and see "our friends". That's how you feel just entering this home. I walk in the door saying "what's that wonderful smell" and "what's for breakfast". All night (sleeping in the most comfortable bed and hugging the crisp ironed sheets ) I rise eager to get to the table of fine linens and china, to see what wonderful feast will be there for us to savor. Only one word YUM!!I have taken family members, friends and just myself to this great home and all who have visited, can't wait to return. Ask my family from Virginia!!Don't forget to visit the on-site Day Spa. Treat yourself to the most friendly and professional staff of employees (friends) willing to help you forget all about the day-to-day life you came to get away from. You won't want to leave!! Trust me.Do yourself a favor, treat yourself and/or a special loved one. You'll be back time and time again like our family.Enjoy your trip to a little"heaven on earth" in Jefferson.Tell Steven, Elaine, Miss Lula and Connie, Kathy sent you.Kathy Ferguson, Plano Texas

        Best B and B Ever

Since our first visit to the Claiborne House in 2001, my husband and I have never wanted to stay anywhere else. The hospitality is phenomenal.

Elaine and Steve Holden greet you with warmth and friendship. They immediately adopted us, and we have been friends ever since. Elaine creates the most amazing home-cooked breakfasts. I dare anyone to turn down a second serving. Steve is a trained massage therapist, and he always gets rid of any residual tension I've brought with me from the city. A nap is generally required afterward. The accomodations are beautifully decorated, and are very comfortable. The atmosphere is always warm and inviting. For 2003, we treated both sets of our parents to a New Year weekend with Elaine and Steve. They can't wait to come back. It's always so hard to leave, and we can hardly wait to come back.

There is planning happening in East Texas. But not much. At least not as much as someone may think there should be for a trip of this magnitude. Planning will happen along the way, we think. We have destinations in mind through October, but have not lined up many people to see ...

        The Road Trip Begins!

Donna and I loaded up the puppies, Button the male Pekingese and Mandy the female Pekingese. They had the entire back of the Ford Expedition to themselves because I didn't have any fishing equipment (like our trips to Port Aransas). Normally, for the past seven years, we have gone to New Orleans on my birthday and stayed for four days to a week. Donna is tired of New Orleans so I decided to make this a road trip, planning on ending up in New Orleans for a night or two. So, here we ...

We left Memphis Thai morning, it was so cold and took so long to get to our rest stop because we had to drive so slowly because of all the ice in the road. I pretty much slept the whole day on the coach. We stopped at this pace where we were right on the state line of two country's called Texarkana because its the state line for Texas and Arkansas. We a.s went to this parliament place in little rock Arkansas where the were all these funny ...
