... view of the Hill Country from his back yard. We sat at his kitchen table and chatted, then went up to the Comfort Cafe for dinner (chicken-fried steak, patty melt, sweet tea - yum!). Mike was his usual personable and entertaining self - we said goodnight and headed back to the hotel to literally fall into bed.

Monday July 6
Just a short drive (on I-35, yuck) from Austin to San Antonio. Drove to the Days Inn Alamo/Riverwalk - yes it is run down, worse for wear, etc. but is clean, a decent price, and within walking distance of the Riverwalk! First order of business was a nap, then we readied to ride bikes. We rode over to the Visitors' Center to get a trail map, posed for a photo in front of the Alamo, got a free hug from a group of Seventh ...

Sam Houston was its first president but after 9 years they joined the United States in order to have greater protection and access to economical benefits. Today we were up early to get to the Train Station by 6:45 am. There was a lot of two-wheeled hardware in the parking lot when taking a read on the temperature!
