... from the Old Testament. The middle apse has a huge magnificent mosaic of Christ. The interior has roman columns and the cloister garden arches and fountain are Arab inspired. The bronze door has 42 Biblical scenes. We shared caprese and stuffed meat balls (tasted like pork sausage) a Monreale specialty. Palermo food markets definitely have an Arabian feel. Breakfast was fresh squeezed blood red orange juice and fried rice balls that they call pancakes. ...

... caught the 8pm ferry across to Naples because it worked out cheaper and quicker than driving back through Sicily and up the boot of Italy. We were supposed to arrive at 8am, only to be awoken from our cabin at 06h00 because we'd made good time during the night. It was then onto Barrea in the mountains!

... smart and more than we need. Looking forward to brekky in the morning as mama who doesn't speak English will be serving it!) As it was still quite early I convinced the guys to get out to take a quick walk around the check the city. ... br> As the weather turns warmer and the romance of the fire has crashed and burned (pardon the pun) we are ready to be warm. We are ready to stop checking and knowing about wind direction. We are ready for our doors and windows to be open. And we are ready to put away those white accelerator gasoline thingies and damp wood for a long time!!!

Luckily the temperatures are going to be in the mid 60’s this weekend…but there is a chance of 11 mph winds! Wish us ...

... but the artichokes were surprisingly salty and delicious.

Palermo is one of the places that I don’t think all people would enjoy, there are large, ugly, concrete buildings, dodgy looking people on every corner and generally looks quite run down. But it is authentic, beautiful and bursting in character like nowhere we have been before. We loved it, especially outside Palermo.
