    ... it came out with three candles burning. She was so surprised, and said that had never been done for her before. She blew and blew but the candled didn't want to go out! We did laugh.     John suggest that we might be interested in visiting a community garden in the nearby village/suburb of Whickham. Originally the garden of a large house called the Hermitage, the garden had been allowed to become overgrown and derelict. In 2002 local resident Dave Peacock arranged a public meeting and formed a committee to gain planning permission and generate funding in order to restore the garden to its former glory.
