In the morning was a different stage, a criterion race at the top of "Little Red" across the top of the dune to "Big Red" and back (3x). All up was a 15km race in soft, angled sand. wasn't easy, but was all over in about an hour and a half. The final stage was then to ride in as a group ...

... to convince myself that 5km was so close and even imagined all the riding I had done and how quick 5km goes. unfortunately the km tick away much slower than anywhere I have ridden before.. it got me. ... the logging history and the history of Leavenworth. There were bridges on either side of Blackbird Island. The river was really low and the couple of people who were trying to float down the river had to get out and push a lot. I sure wished I had brought my binoculars as there were lots of birds.

... Larry and I ordered from the kids/senior menu. Larry had kaisespaetzle and I had a German wiener and small pretzel. Derek had an appetizer of three sausages and kaisespaetzle. Erin had the Jagerschnitzle. They had a pitcher of dunkles and I had a radler. We we were not able to have dessert we were so full.

When we got back to the hotel, Larry and Erin went straight to bed both feeling exhausted. Derek and I stayed up for a little while.

... Leavenworth is built in the Bavarian style with lots of German style buildings, restaurants and of course BEER! We all ordered the same meal, Schnitzel Cordon Bleu with spaetzle. They got a pitcher of Oktoberfest beer and I got a Shofferhofer which is beer with grapefruit juice, sounds disgusting but tastes great. The Schnitzel was great as usual with a wonderful cream sauce.
