... them? The cost only a further 50 pesos? We gave in thinking being left in the town whilst they visit the ruins could possibly be quite boring. The ruins were interesting, although the lack of an English guide made it slightly difficult to understand what we were viewing. The cacti were HUGE, everywhere and many over 100 years old! See pictures.
Back to Cafayate where we had lunch and wandered a bit before heading back to Salta, stopping again to see ...
... wanted a rest. I went to my dorm, inside which was a Chinese girl and a serious-looking old French man, neither of whom said hello as I entered and greeted them. Why do people do this? It`s so anti-social! I sorted all of my stuff out then went down the corridor and had a long-awaited shower. The bathroom was spotless and the water was instantly hot - bloody lovely.
Later on I went and got some cash out and went to the supermarket to buy some granola bars and ...
... bridges and loops, immersed in the mountains surrounding the area. Unfortunately the train only runs once a week on a Saturday so we missed it which was a bit upsetting, hopefully there will be more successful train journeys in the future. We spent the 2 days in Salta seeing the all the sights and wandering through the town. The town is surrounded by mountains and we took a cable car ride up Cerro San Bernardo which gave us an amazing ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina eugenecash... the most enthusiastic person I have ever met. From the moment we got on the mini bus (and all got ready to go straight back to sleep) he began a running commentary of where we were, not letting us sleep and later quizzing us (I won a bottle of wine) and telling jokes. He also got us to teach him some English jokes which was sometimes a joke in itself! The tour was fabulous, and Cafayate another lovely Argentinian town with some delicious cheap wine ...
Salta, Argentina lyndsaygillot...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina heinlisenka... from the malbec and cabernet sauvignons produced in and around Mendoza. The bodegas of Cafayate have been producing wine since the days of the Spanish. The town is small and charming, but really quite uninteresting and the bodegas are nothing special (especially after visiting wine country in Mendoza). However, April 17 was the Dia Internacional de la Lucha Campesina and there was a booth and a variety of activities happening in ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina chiapoe... in and out for nearly six months with constantly changing activities and external stimuli can drastically alter what the brain requires much like an addiction to a drug. The physical act of moving during extended travel is the fuel for this addiction. However, this feeling of restlessness was not just unique to travel. I felt it in the routine of my old life in NYC. Fortunately, during my busiest days at Citi ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina chiapoe... continued and I produced my plastic UK fancy pants new licence. Is this an international licence I was asked, Yes, I replied. Ok, then, you can drive the car. Result. I moved into the driving seat. Pete was told he would have to return two days later to appear before a magistrate with the policeman. We drove off, never to return. The mountain pass was incredible. Pete had driven through it in the morning and I had watched on secretly ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina flitterjahr... looking. In the middle of the city was a big shady plaza, with a huge statue in the middle. The plaza is called 9 de Julio, which just means the 9th of July. Surrounding the plaza is a cobblestone street with big European looking buildings. These buildings served as restaurants, cafes, banks, and musuems. We walked through a big shady park lined with people selling their goods in booths. There´s also a big pondi n ...
