... still speak Welsh. Indeed lots of signs are in both Welsh and Spanish, similar to us with Welsh and English. Apparently the connection is that close that The British Welsh Office pays Welsh teachers to come here and teach Welsh in the schools. We were able to see the museum, which is based in the old railway station, this contains many old documents and artefacts from the original settlers and was quite interesting. From here we drove to the first Pastors house, the old ...

Half Million Penguins at Punto Tumbo Colony

What an amazing experience---by far the coolest thing I´ve seen in a long time. At Punto Tumbo there is a colony of about a half million Magellanic penguins...unreal! I think my camera was smoking from taking so many pictures. You were able to get really close to the penguins, actually it was that the penguins that would get close to the humans. They waddle around and are quite ...

Trelew - Day 22 Punto Tombo

Day of watching and walking with penguins is here now!!! I think if you want to see one of the biggest colonies of Magalles penguins you need to come this far. I left in a shared car with two other Germans around 10am. We took Routa 1 which is all gravol down to Punta Tombo. We had a short stop in a Island Beach (don´t know its name). But in high tide this island gets hidden and when the tide is low it comes out. Very nice view around that area and of course few mama seals ...

Trelew - Day 21 Gaiman Tour

Bus dropped me off after 18 hours of travel. Seems very long but this is Argentina. Remember distances are far!!! Trelew is not a tourist town at all. I am not sure what I am doing here really. I guess watching and walking with penguins in Punta Tombo must worth this visit for me. I decided to hop on the Gaiman bus which is the local bus called 28 de Julio for 3.80 ARS to get to the famous city of the Welsh, Gaiman. I spent about 3 hours walking around the city, watching the old Welsh ...

Dont Fry Filet with Margarina

... in 2nd class. Slumming it with semi cama seats, constant dvds and pretty damn good grub to be fair. Makes the MegaBus look a bit lame quite frankly. In fact makes some airlines (KLM anyone) look pretty lame. We stopped in a place called Viedma for no ...

3%...?

Penguins!!!! - Punto Tombo

... excited about seeing these amazing creatures and we couldn´t wait for the opportunity! We arrived unharmed...at least physically...after about an hour or so of more dirt roads that cross throughout the Patagonian landscape. We donned the necessary life jackets and rain proof ponchos and made our way to the boat. We boarded, sat and were ready to head out on this dingy-type inflatable craft when the captain climbed up behind the steering wheel and made a quick call on the CB. He ...

Our Last Look Around Ushuaia

... were walking up, then a further 1.5 hours to a glacier. After our trek yesterday we walked part of the way up for some photos, then headed to the restaurant for Capuccino and hot chocolate. We then headed to the Naval Museum which is in the old prison, although a lot of the exhibits were about the prison. The prison was built here around 1900 (maybe earlier) - as it was so remote here. It was ...
