Utopia After Party, Lola The Van & Hotel Recovery

Luckily we had pre-purchased tickets for the official BOOM bus to take us to the isolated region called Sao Giao which is a beautiful parish in the centre of Portugal on Serra de Estrela, the highest mountain range in Portugal where the afterparty called Utopia was happening. It was in the Beira region in the district of Coimbra. Without a car, you would be doing the hard hitch with hundreds of other hippies carrying cardboard signs and i don´t think we would have made it ...

My uncle and my aunt came to pick us up, at the arrival of the train (before 6am). As we wanted to have a coffee with a delicious Portuguese pastry, but as the coffee shops were not yet opened, we went to see the sunrise from the front of the cathedral.

amazingly beautiful area with a river running thru green hills, dotted with small portugese white washed villages and vineyards which are dug into the siderd of teh hills. the rain didn't stop us from doing a couple of winery tours and climbing up 600 odd steps to see a beautiful church.... although we did find ourselves inside bars and bakeries samling portugals finest ports and pastries .... and the chinese restaurant of course (habits die hard).

... along the valley floor, but getting down to it was an adventure in itself. I was so proud of myself up until that point because I hadn't gotten lost once that day. But I think I anybody would have gotten lost on the trail I was going down. It zigzagged through waist high grasses, mud, rocks, and thorn bushes. I don't think anyone had used it in ages and the flares that I was trying to follow were so faded I could barely make them out. I stopped once about half way down to ...

... we stayed in a cozy Quinta named Levada. We had a lot of wines in this period, two were special, Vertentes 2001 and Tres Bagos Sauv. Blanc 2005. Also good food there, as the other places that we have been in Portugal. I had a very good octopus in restaurant named Barriguinha Cheia, translated to English as Fully Small Belly!!! Another interesting thing was visiting the wine makers. The last ...

Now Thats Better

Hello from Coimbra. Just finally got around to sending this out to the family, so I hope you guys like reading it. Can´t remember what I said in my previous ones, but I hope it´s all good stuff. Hopefully I will stick to this and keep updating as much as I can. Left Porto yesterday on the train with a Scottish guy I met at the hostel. I got off in Coimbra and he went on to Lisbon. It was nice to have someone with me just in case I messed up or ...

WWOOFING IN PORTUGAL

... Whenever Clem gets new information to support his viewpoints, he goes to tell her. But, no matter how long Clem talks for, his grandma's response is always: "So, what?" Clem says, "You take a long time, to carefully lay out and develop a good argumentation ... and, then, she: 'So, what?" Clem was telling his stories to me and an English bloke named Adam. We were in a bar in a Portuguese university town. Adam and I noticed how all the young ...

... buildings, you'll find the nicest cleanest homes that look like they've just been built. The city center is a jewel once again, with mostly new and tiled buildings, gardens, a fountain and even a castle. Surprising also is the number of BMWs, VWs, and Mercedes cruising the streets-drug dealers, drug money, Uli says. We go to Guimaraez to pick up a friend's car that we'll use to get me to ...
